| How to perform retinoscopy | 11 May 2008 18:54 GMT | 78 |
How does one perform static retinoscopy using a direct retinoscope? Do dilate the eyes w/ atropine, darken the lights, take the retinoscope, stand 20' away, and try to neutralize the cat's-eye reflex w/ the phoropter?

| Progressive and sunlight-transition - good match? | 10 May 2008 09:15 GMT | 6 |
Hi all. I am about to get my third progressive lens prescription (will be trying a higher-end lens to hopefully alleviate some distortion problems I have been having with my present Esilor Panamic lenses). The new frames I chose don't come with sunlight clip-ons, so

[...The Variability of the Refraction of the Eye The theory that errors of refraction are due to permanent deformations of the eyeball leads naturally to the conclusion, not only that errors of refraction are permanent states, but that normal refraction is also

Why don't ophthalmologists and optometrists use the Landolt C chart, instead of the Snellen chart? It's harder to cheat w/ the Landolt C.

| Atropine vs Patching for treatment of amblyopia | 07 May 2008 17:55 GMT | 17 |
I was reading a clinical trial "A randomized trial of atropine vs. patching for treatment of moderate amblyopia in children", in the March 2002 issue of Archives of Ophthalmology. My optometrist, Dr Ryan, says that I need to be patched, but the study says that atropine

| Intravitreal injections of angiopoietin-1 or AcSKDP a possible treatment for ROP? | 06 May 2008 13:17 GMT | 1 |
Could intravitreal injections of angiopoietin-1 or AcSKDP -- http://bloodjournal.hematologylibrary.org/cgi/reprint/101/8/3014.pdf-- be a possible treatment for ROP? Since ROP is caused presumably by the iatrogenically high oxygen levels given to premature babies causing

| Spherical equivalent refraction? | 06 May 2008 01:46 GMT | 12 |

My brother is 65 and has reached the point of needing cataract surgery. He is told he has severe astigmatism in his right eye, and moderate astigmatism in the left. I don't know what this means in terms of diopters - he doesn't have his prescription.
