How can I consider the optometry a science if24 Aug 2007 21:36 GMT42
There are more and more complications from wearing contacts lens, with
introducing  new contacts lens products.
There are hundreds of completed and   ongoing research showing the
harm causing by soft contacts lenses  (microbial keratitis, papillary

Help from the experts23 Aug 2007 05:40 GMT2
Is time now for new pair of eyeglasses and after shopping and
researching a bit I ended leaning towards the Silhouette titanium
rimless/no ringes frame with the best lens available for my
prescription.
Make tinted lenses from transparent23 Aug 2007 03:50 GMT3
I have polycarbonate lenses with crizal-alize treatment. Is it possible
to tint them now so to make them become sunglasses lenses?
What is the normal procedure, do opticians buy already-tinted lenses or
do they tint transparent lenses just before cutting and mounting them?

How Can I Determine the Fitting Height of My Glasses?21 Aug 2007 22:20 GMT3
I have no-line bifocals and want to determine the fit height of my
lenses. Aren't there some kind of engraved marks that show where the
lens transitions to the add portion? I've noticed a couple of circles
or o's in my lenses and am wondering if that is the markings.
Genetic Engineering21 Aug 2007 21:37 GMT1
I have always wondered about something for a very long time. I know
that people have been enabled, with the current technologies, to
extract the genetic makeup from one type of animal and then to
reproduce that makeup and create a clone of that characteristic. So I
Instant Vision Improvement21 Aug 2007 21:02 GMT46
I finally decided to check my vision using the Snellen chart
recommended by Otis.  My vision was instantly improved dramatically!
I set the distance to 10 feet from the computer screen.  The chart
generate the letters size adjusted to the specified distance.
Autorefractor vs. phoropter21 Aug 2007 14:48 GMT4
Here's something I don't think I have seen much of here as I perused
previous posts-  I autorefract to require a plus lens for distance,
but the subjective refraction with the phoropter gets me a negative
lens.  I have some serious astigmatism (-4.5) in one eye, less in the
question...exercising???21 Aug 2007 05:45 GMT34
I work in a community where I deal with naval fighter pilots every day. I
always considered their careers exciting and fun-looking, but definitely
off-limits due to my poor vision. I'm otherwise fit for the job. I have
myopia.

In looking at a fundus photograph, how do the professionals here on
the board, differ the arteries from the veins (arterioles from
venules)?

Quick Question (Not Optometry)20 Aug 2007 06:19 GMT2
Bloody docs always have to start waffling on about "well, you have a few
bright spots on your brain, it could be demyelination, but if it is, it
won't be MS", yeah, how do you know, how do you know it's not really
really really really really really hyper early.
Eyeglass prescription question19 Aug 2007 20:03 GMT5
This is the eyeglass prescription (that I got today) for my left eye,
which I'm copying exactly as written:
-50  -1.25 x 85
I was just surfing around to try and gage how bad that is, and the -50
Ophthalmology a long dead science!19 Aug 2007 06:01 GMT35
The learned men on this forum should explain to the weak people that
come here to ask for advice why:
1) A man goes to the doc and complains about his own imperfect sight
2) Doc prescribes glasses
