Disappointing New Progressives23 Dec 2006 23:19 GMT11
Earlier this week I picked up a new set of progressives following an
eye checkup that showed a small change in my Rx. I didn't need new
glasses, but I'm a bit of an eyeglass junkie and so I decided to treat
myself to another pair with trendy frames.
Scientists state that pseudo-myopia leads to axial myopia.23 Dec 2006 18:31 GMT16
Dear Prevention-minded freinds,
There are two opinions about the prevention of myopia:
The second-opinion, that on the threshold, if you could prevent
incipient myopia before a minus lens is applied, you could
Astigmatism + Myopia vs Astigmatism alone23 Dec 2006 04:15 GMT15
Is it true that when calculating the error of an eye, it is ok to say
that an astigmatism of -0.75 + myopia of -0.25 would be equivalent to
an astigmatism of -1.00? If not, which option (-075 + -0.25 or
-1.00)would be considered as "better vision" of the two?
new progressives - narrow field close up22 Dec 2006 17:10 GMT33
I'm new to glasses, having used reading glasses for the past 10 years
or so.  I got a pair of progressives today and whereas they seem ok at
distance and mid range, reading a book, it seems that my field of sharp
vision is about 4 words across. If I were in the middle of the line,
What does "Pl" mean?22 Dec 2006 01:15 GMT16
I just had an eye exam (first in eight years). When I got home
I looked at the prescription and it had "Pl" under Sphere for
one eye. That same eye was -0.75 eight years ago.
Anyone know what the Pl notation means?
How to recognize AR coating22 Dec 2006 01:02 GMT25
How do you recognize that glasses have anti-reflective coating?
I recently bought new glasses with AR coating, but I constantly see
reflection of my eyes and there is no green color that I had in
previous glasses.
correcting vision better than 20/2022 Dec 2006 00:40 GMT21
Can vision be safely corrected better than 20/20? I'm guessing there
must be tradeoffs of correcting vision with glasses, contacts, or laser
beyond 20/20.
Computer glasses, do I need one?21 Dec 2006 23:55 GMT29
Just want some of your opinons. I do have glasses for
short-sightedness. But I only use it when looking at whiteboard or
during conference where the presentations slides are far. Problem is I
face computer everyday and since I can see things that are near to me
Coating PEELING off??? (Lenscrafters)21 Dec 2006 23:42 GMT26
We've bought glasses from Lenscrafters for over 25 years now, and
they've always been very sharp and durable, lasting 4-8 years before
replacement, and even then, we just replace them because the
prescription changed.
A Scientist, Dr. Colgate, suggests a lens choice for plus-prevention.21 Dec 2006 14:10 GMT53
Dear Prevention-minded friends,
Dr. Colgate asked me to post the following
regarding plus-prevention -- on how to avoid
entry into progressive myopia -- as
What general-purpose progressives does everybody like?21 Dec 2006 03:29 GMT21
I'm about -6.00D, and it's time for new glasses.  My current brand
of progressive lens is Essilor Natural.  Is there any significant
difference among the various brands?  Is there one in particular
that seems to work better than the others?
difficulty reading the menu20 Dec 2006 19:41 GMT11
I waitress two nights a week, and have a real hard time seeing the menu
when a customer points at a partcular item he wants to order. I wear
strong bifocals and can see ok at a distance and if things are close
enough to read normally, but my manager has noticed how hard a time I
Would an error in cylinder affect vision?20 Dec 2006 18:08 GMT4
Not sure if this has been done to death but what the hell. I'm
wondering can a 0.25 diopter difference in cylinder have the
effect I'm seeing. After all I get the impression that that's
"equivalent" to 0.125 or so in sphere.
Question regarding the Contrast Sensitivity Function20 Dec 2006 12:54 GMT4
My question is about a plot of the Contrast Sensitivity Function I
found on http://www.webvision.med.utah.edu/imageswv/KallSpat24.jpg. I
read the corresponding article on
http://www.webvision.med.utah.edu/KallSpatial.html over and over again
Myopia & hyperopia19 Dec 2006 07:31 GMT16
Why is it that my mother with her +3 prescription for distance can see better
without her glasses than I can without my -2.75?  She also has some stronger
glasses for reading.
