those of you who are optometrists: what should I expect to pay15 Aug 2006 13:38 GMT5
As I said in a previous post, I have never paid for my contacts.
I called around and asked at a few od offices what they charge.
None of them could give a definitive answer.
One said they would charge (1) for the office visit, (2) to fit me for lenses
Do "Reading Glasses" Change Your Eyes?15 Aug 2006 05:36 GMT17
In my late 50s, I noticed I was getting more and more nearsighted.
Eventually, I bought some drugstore reading glasses and I seem to have
to rely on them more and more. Is this a normal change going on as I
age or are the reading (magnifying) glasses hastening the change?

Pros and Cons of wearing glasses...13 Aug 2006 21:34 GMT8
I am over 40 and don't wear any glasses. I can see fine and don't get
any headaches. I noticed that lately my eyes strain when I try to read
something closer than 1 foot. I read magazines, newspapers, and
computer screen just fine.
I think my OD gave up on me13 Aug 2006 20:05 GMT14
Tell me if I'm being an unreasonable patient.
I asked to try RGP contacts.  The first pair I got back gave good
vision and I adapted to them in about a week.  My primary complaint
was/is that they hang low, and as a result, I get a lot of
Major floater attack -- does this mean anything?13 Aug 2006 19:08 GMT14
I'm a 28-year-old nearsighted male, and I've had floaters for as long
as I can remember.  I never found them too annoying; they were just
little translucent threads (maybe three different shapes) and I never
really noticed them unless I was really paying attention.
'Braces' for the eyes?13 Aug 2006 05:24 GMT8
What is this that i've been hearing about where there are contact
lenses that shape the cornea when you wear it overnight? Is this for
real?
Places to buy eyeglasses?13 Aug 2006 04:34 GMT5

Cataract Surgery and Flickering Vision13 Aug 2006 04:27 GMT21
I had the surgery yesterday adn went to see the surgeon today. I'm happy
with the result but the only thing that bothers me is ocassional flickering
vision. Flickering usually happens when I read (the operated eye is set for
a reading distance). According to the surgeon, the ...
Definity Progressive Lens12 Aug 2006 20:36 GMT8
Does anyone have any experience with, or knowledge about, the Definity
progressive lens? A local optician recommended it to me to replace my
Varilux Comforts, and I'm curious about other opinions. I like the Comforts,
but would like less distortion on the sides even more.
Infrarex for Chalazion12 Aug 2006 07:21 GMT1
This is mainly for the doctors, but anyone with insight should chime
in.
Was wondering if this would be safe for heat compresses.. It uses
infrared light for heating and infrared supposedly damages the eyes. My

Glasses makes your eyes worse fast!11 Aug 2006 21:16 GMT20
Here is what those people speak from experience:
glasses and contacts can make your eyesight worse too. Your eyes will
start to rely on the prescription to help you to see, so they will
start to get lazy!! Then the next time you will need a stronger
Maculopathy11 Aug 2006 17:56 GMT3
My father is 75 years old and has been diagnosed with Maculopathy.  It has
affected only one eye and it makes it very hard for him to do just about
anything.  He lives in Buenos Aires Argentina and his doctor told him there
is not much that can be done to treat this disease.  In the ...
Is this "Hurting" my eyes?11 Aug 2006 03:31 GMT7
I have about 4 pairs of glasses and 2 pairs sunglasses with my
prescription.
Between the 6 glasses in total, there are (I believe) 2 prescriptions.
My "old" prescription and my "newer" prescription, which I believe is 1
