Computer Vision system - optotype font18 Aug 2006 15:59 GMT16
I am a recently graduated ophthalmologist and I am trying to design a
system for checking vision on a computer.  There are several commercial
designs - but they are quite expensive - $2000.  I figured I could put
something together myself and have played around with powerpoint and I
age of presbyopia decline18 Aug 2006 07:00 GMT6
Of course each person is different, but from what I understand, most human
beings start developing presbyopia at around 45 years old, starting mildly,
and it gradually gets worse.
My question is: at about what age does it usually stop getting worse, and
RGP starburst effect at night17 Aug 2006 22:01 GMT3
What causes this?  Is it the pupil opening up wider than the optical
zone of the lens (if I'm using that term correctly)?  Does a larger
lens imply a larger OZ?  I ask because I got some bigger lenses to
address some annoying edge effects - and I thought that night vision

Eye doctor said that at my age it's time to worry about
bright sunlight -- wear sunglasses, she said.
Well, I'm already wearing glasses (for reading, computer
work, distance), and with shirts having only one smallish
Difference Between Cheap & Expensive Computer/Reading Glasses?17 Aug 2006 02:58 GMT10
Are there significant differences between cheap (e.g., Walgreen) and
expensive reading glasses? I specifically want to know if expensive ones
provide clearer close vision and less eye fatigue.

Dear AceMan,
Two questions:
1. When do your start your Ortho-K treatment, and
2. Could you contact me from my site:
Reading glasses prescription16 Aug 2006 23:33 GMT3
I know this is a dumb question...
But do I need a prescription from my ophthalmologist to get a custom-made
pair of reading glasses? Or, can I just order one without a prescription?
What is this lens? No name is provided on label.16 Aug 2006 23:17 GMT1
A few weeks back NiteRider mentioned a "no-name" toric contact lens
that he described this way:
"I have tried quite a few contact lenses for astigmatism ... and some
no name that has serial
Lt. eyelid not opening in morning16 Aug 2006 19:44 GMT7
This has been happening for approximately 4 months.  Now it occurs on a
regular basis every morning.   On first awakening I am unable to open
my Rt. eye.   It is not stuck.. It is simply closed and will not open.
After a minute to five.. it opens and remains fine for the rest of the
Newly Developed Eyeglass Prescription Process16 Aug 2006 06:49 GMT5
Recently, a local newscast featured a story on a new type of eyeglass
prescription process.  This process involved a laser scanning the eye
and, using that data, generating a very accurate eyeglass lens
prescription which would take into account the various anomalies (I
OrthoK for astigmatism16 Aug 2006 06:22 GMT1
I E-mailed the people at BE (http://www.beretainer.com/), and they said
that I'm not a candidate for CRT right now, but: "We are currently
doing trials with an astigmatic design. The earlier results are very
promising. Check back with us at the end of the year."
Multifocal Contact Lenses16 Aug 2006 05:03 GMT3
Does anyone know of a contact lens manufacturer who makes a "stock"
multifocal lens in a -12?  My eye doctor deals with one company who will
only make them custom ordered, for $150.  I am only trying out the lens, so
paying big bucks makes no sense.  Most of the manufacturers ...
Aosept and Clear Care16 Aug 2006 02:40 GMT2
What is the difference between these two Ciba products?  I used Aosept for
years until it was taken off the market.  Now supposedly it is back, but I
could only find Clear Care, which seems about the same.  When Aosept was
unavailable I used Ultracare, which I didn't like at all: ...
Drill Mount / Rimless Toolkit15 Aug 2006 18:40 GMT4
Is there such a thing as a drill mount / rimless frame toolkit?
Basically a tool for adjusting the small nut(s) that hold the
bridge/temples to the lenses.  Using small pliers to do the adjustment
seems to add the risk of scratching.
