| Macular degeneration | 20 Jul 2006 00:09 GMT | 1 |
The FDA has approved a new drug that could help patients with macular degeneration. The drug, lucentis, treats the wet form of macular degeneration. It's the only drug shown to significantly reverse failing vision. One dose is expected to cost around two-thousand dollars.

| Pupillary distance | 19 Jul 2006 22:56 GMT | 5 |
My optician has given me two PD figures: 66 distance and 63 near. I tend to spend more time reading and using a computer than driving and outdoor activities. For single vision lenses, which figure would it be better to use, or should I compromise somewhere in between?

| Causes of chromatic aberration | 19 Jul 2006 20:33 GMT | 3 |
I recently tried Nikon Transistions Super lenses but couldn't get on with them because of severe chromatic aberration. They were high index (not sure whether 1.6 or 1.7) plastic - polycarbonate I think - and aspheric. I also noticed things looked different sizes and with

| Contact lenses in military service | 19 Jul 2006 17:54 GMT | 3 |
Just my curiosity here: Does anyone know whether contact lenses are allowed and/or widely used by U.S. combat troops, in Iraq for example? It seems like there could be great benefits to contacts over glasses, but also big drawbacks. Sand in the eyes could really put you out of

| Contact Lens Cleaner not available anymore | 19 Jul 2006 14:15 GMT | 6 |
I'm finding it harder and harder to find any CL cleaners in stores. I used to use MiraFlow. Bought some Pliagel when I couldn't get M anymore--now can't find Pliagel. What's going on? Besides the "lack of sales" answer? I REALLY need to use cleaner.

| Contacts for astigmatism | 19 Jul 2006 12:00 GMT | 3 |
For astigmatism, especially if using RGP type lenses, it seems like you could build the backside of the lens to fairly precisely match the shape of the cornea. With it like this, the lens would suck in to the cornea in a known orientation, so rotation would not be an issue

| IOL with the best track record? | 19 Jul 2006 01:19 GMT | 4 |
Is a particular IOL brand considered the best in terms of safety (e.g., complications such as secondary cataract, etc)? I'm having cataract surgery on 8/09 and will meet the surgeon on 7/31. I just want to know if a particular brand stands out among various IOLs.

| Using the near point test and a ruler, I measured my manifast refraction! | 18 Jul 2006 22:15 GMT | 16 |
Did you know you can get an accurate measure right here at home or anywhere with just a ruler and some lines and/or text? What I did was measure the point where a long line becomes in perfect focus, not any closer or further. Since I have cylindar, I need to use a line. I

| Near work causes myopia! *genes play a factor too* | 18 Jul 2006 17:25 GMT | 13 |
What Causes Myopia? The increase in myopia is partly due to the increase "near point" tasks, such as the use of computer, extensive reading, playing video games and other activities up close. Some clinical evidence indicates

| waiting to see [literally] | 17 Jul 2006 22:36 GMT | 4 |
Hi there. I'm wondering if anyone has experience or understanding of two assumably different problems I'm having with my vision. One I suspect is due to aging, but it seems a bit over the top for my age [49]. Back ground - i had laser surgery for ARMD [wet] in 1996, with no ...

| Dominant eye | 17 Jul 2006 11:30 GMT | 8 |
I have -2.75 right eye and -2.25 left. If my left is dominant does that mean, without glasses, that my vision is better than if the right is dominant? I’m not sure which is the dominant one. If I line two things up it’s the left, but I read that people select the dominant eye for ...

| [Straw Poll] soc.support.vision-impaired | 17 Jul 2006 09:32 GMT | 41 |
I've posted a Straw Poll on the Web to find out how many people will use soc.support.vision-impaired if the group is created. The numerical results (no names) will be incorporated into the 2nd RFD as evidence of support for the group.

| RGP night vision | 17 Jul 2006 03:43 GMT | 5 |
Until a few days ago I had never really worn my new-ish RGP lenses at night due to the long summer days. While my vision during the day is just about perfect, I noticed a fogginess to my vision at night. The way it looked really was almost indistinguishable from it actually

| Blue-light blocking IOLs | 16 Jul 2006 19:00 GMT | 2 |
Does anyone have experience with/knowlege about Alcon's new IOLs (aspheric and toric models) which have a built-in blue-blocking property? Allegedly, they may play a role in preventing age-related macular degeneration. Alcon claims that these yellow IOLs don't affect
