hybrid CL31 Jan 2006 23:53 GMT4
I am interested in the hybrid contact lens coming out this spring. It
has a rigid (RGP) center and a soft (hydrogel) outer skirt. I believe
that the brand name is SynergEyes. Have any of the docs here heard
anything about the level of patient satisfaction in vision and comfort
QUESTION: 'Normal' minimum focal length31 Jan 2006 19:30 GMT6
Hey, all.
I am nearsighted, to the tune of 3.5, corrected by contacts. I was just
having a close look at a polished stone I bought, and observed that I
lose the ability to focus at about the 15cm mark; anything closer and I

Pupil size and light intensity31 Jan 2006 03:28 GMT4
I'm wondering if anybody can tell me (approximately) what the relationship
is between the size of the pupil and light intensity. I know that changing
the size of the pupil only allows for fine tuning the amount of light we
"see", and also may change due to emotional state etc.
3rd annual: Are shoes the cause of vision problems?30 Jan 2006 21:05 GMT6
TO: All vision researchers, doctors, and patients.
I am a 35-year-old electrical engineer investigating the biomechanical
effects of shoes on degenerative diseases.  Each year I post about this
admittedly unusual connection, but thus far nobody has taken it

Pain in the eye when wearing glasses - help!30 Jan 2006 10:15 GMT32
I had a case of eyestrain a couple of months ago, from reading too much
on my PalmPilot (those things are *really* bad for you!).  The
eyestrain manifested as pain in my left eye.  I am mildly myopic and
astigmatic - something like -1 diopters.  Nothing serious.  The pain
Appraising the OD29 Jan 2006 16:02 GMT47
I will appreciate some help on this.  I am trying to work out a series of
simple questions to ask during a refraction to assess the competency
of the refractor.  So far I am up to here:
1.  What is a diopter?
alternative style glasses for better vision (not pinholes)29 Jan 2006 15:10 GMT2
I have worn contacts for almost 10 years and recently had to switch to
glasses due to infection\blepharitis. My intolerability for the
inferiority of glasses resulted in experimentation of taking out the
lens of my glasses and holding the close to my eyes and against my nose
excessive minification?29 Jan 2006 05:25 GMT5
I just got a new pair of glasses; same material as my old ones (Hoya
1.70 index), nearly same prescription (Old prescription: OD -8.50,
-1.50 axis 059; OS -8.00, -1.25, axis 108.  New prescription: OD -8.25,
-1.75, axis 065; OS -8.00 -1.25, axis 110).  The frames are similar in
Presbyopic Correction in Silicone Hydrogels29 Jan 2006 05:11 GMT4
I know that currently there are no multifocal silicone hydrogel lenses on
the market. (Anyone know if there are any in the works?) What I am referring
to is something I read here, I think from Larry, to the effect that Focus
Night and Day lenses have some inherent presbyopic ...

Is Opti-Clean necessary for Oasys contacts?28 Jan 2006 04:50 GMT13
I'm using Renu with Oasys and it seems OK.
Why is Opti recommended and what happens
if I don't want to spend the extra money for it?
Lasik & Seizures28 Jan 2006 01:42 GMT5
Does anyone know of any concerns/risks with having Lasik eye surgery
performed while being treated for seizures? They expect I will be on the
medication for seizure control for two years tops so if there are any issues
I would rather wait to have the surgery performed until I am off ...
New lenses have high chromatic aberation Ugh!27 Jan 2006 20:04 GMT12
I have a very strong prescription. -15 range with astigmatism. I ask for the
best in plastic lenses. I get high index aspheric with abrasion and
reflection coatings. They always had strong off axis chromatic aberration. A
year ago, what I got was incredible. Virtually no ...
