Doc said no to LASIK and I'm glad08 Nov 2005 19:39 GMT2
Just wanted to share my experience with those considering LASIK. I went
for my final pre-LASIK exam where they verify all measurements a day
before surgery. I told my doc that I felt my eyes were a bit drier the
past few days and he did a Schermer (sp?) test and it came out to 1 ...
Testing sunglasses for UV protection08 Nov 2005 07:41 GMT6
Hey, all.
I recently bought a pair of nice Serengeti sunglasses off Ebay. The
price was _really_ good - like less than 40% of retail. It was cheap
enough for me to wonder if they might be a knock-off.

Optical Coherence Tomography question07 Nov 2005 04:32 GMT10
When a doctor uses OCT. Does the machine "default" to scan the entire
360 degree retinal surface of the eye from the peripheral or edge to
the center or macula. Or does he has to input regions to scan such as
macula or even optic disc or selected retinal

my right eye and -1.25 in my left.  When I don't wear my glasses, my
right eye strays off and I get headaches. I'm trying not to become too
dependent on my glasses so fr closework I try to survive without my
plastic frame lens change05 Nov 2005 22:47 GMT1
I have a pair of Vuarnet sunglasses that use a plastic frame (may be
nylon, not certain).  I need to change the lenses.  I have new lenses.
Does anyone know how much heat I need to soften the frame?  Is a hair
dryer too much, too little?
Please help me understand cataract vs glaucoma05 Nov 2005 09:22 GMT1
I am in my early 70s.  I have utmost faith in meyedoc whom I will see
in a couple of weeks.  At the last exam, based on my vision complaints
and testing, it was determined that I finally passed the threshold for
cataract surgery and lens implants.  We had a thread here on lens

Hi, I'm getting ready to buy a backup pair of glasses, and they'll be
the first pair of glasses I'll have been able to really research, since
I've finally learned my lesson (+my prescription is settling down...

Macular Degeneration03 Nov 2005 13:47 GMT7
I have been diagnosed by a retina specialist with Macular Degeneration of
one eye.  I have been treated by Visudyne Therapy and an injection of
Avastin.  It will be repeated every 3 months about 4 times.  My central
vision with that eye is almost gone.

Lenticular astigmatism02 Nov 2005 20:42 GMT3
I have a lenticular astigmatism. I also work in IT and therefore spend
a lot of time looking at a PC monitor. I have noticed that if I spend
less time using my PC (e.g. if I am between contracts) my vision seems
to improve slightly. Equally when I start using the PC for long periods
Why are my RGPs like this..01 Nov 2005 23:00 GMT2
I notice that my right lens has been problematic these past few days.
When I put it on for the first time in the day, it has what appears to
be a "dry film" on the outside, which blurs my vision (sorta like
looking through a stained glass).

I'm 61 yo and have worn glasses since I was 12. I'm also
a computer programmer. A couple of years ago I noticed that
when reading the paper and especially when using the computer my
vision would get fuzzy or bit blurry. Sort of like the lens of my
