After decades of fairly stable cyl (around -1d, mirrored ax), why would
cyl suddenly almost double (with sph and axis still stable)?   stress?
disease?  bad habits?  more astig to come? thx

I am a 58 year old man that is considering Allegretto Wave Lasik
to correct nearsightedness. Has anyone had lasik done using
the  ALLEGRETTO WAVE Excimer laser? Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thank You
AMD and a curious symptom30 Nov 2005 11:32 GMT7
My mother, who is in her eighties, was diagnosed some time ago with (dry)
age-related macular degeneration.  As well as the expected and
well-documented effects (which happily, she is coping with well) she is
experiencing another symptom: basically, she sees "phantom images" of ...

over the counter chloramphenicol29 Nov 2005 14:39 GMT6
I only found out today that antibiotic drops are now available for
sale as over-the-counter medication.  No prescription needed.  As I
get eye infections from time to time in an enucleated socket this is
of interest to me.
Adult clogged tear duct29 Nov 2005 11:45 GMT5
For the past several weeks I have had tearing in my left eye.  My
ophthalmologist  believes that is due to a blocked tear duct and has
prescribed an antibiotic.  If the blockage does not clear up he is
recommending surgery.  In the mean time as my eye tears I have been
Prism Needed29 Nov 2005 10:33 GMT15
Just been to the optician today... they want me to pay £58 to have some
new lenses made, when my old glasses (OK, they were without PRISM -
dunno if that makes a difference), my old glasses, frames included cost
£39....
Rough time with cataract29 Nov 2005 02:23 GMT22
Hello to all. . .I had an atypically tough time with my cataract
surgery. It has been 2 1/2 weeks and I still have only blurred vision
in the eye that was operated on. I had the old-fashioned, non-laser
surgery, with cutting and stitching, because I'm on the "poor people's
Dr. William Trattler asks that patients lobby against contact lenses28 Nov 2005 10:04 GMT8
Contact lenses are DANGEROUS??? With over 5 million refractive surgery
procedures performed, and visual quality, corneal integrity and corneal
nerves compromised in each and every one of them, refractive surgery
must now be the leading cause of vision loss in the United States.
Protein deposit tablets in bulk?28 Nov 2005 09:57 GMT2
Do any of the protein deposit products on the market come in large
quantities?  Most of the products today come in small 10 to 12 tablet
boxes for $7.00 to $10.00.  I remember when you could buy boxes of 48
tablets.   I've tried searching the net without any luck.  Thanks.
Pinhole glasses good for computer work?27 Nov 2005 23:39 GMT26
I'm shortsighted programmer, wearing glasses with -1.0ph/0.5cyl dioptry on
each eye, and after only 2 hours of working in from of my LCD, my eyes hurt
quite a bit. In fact, they hurt all the time, because they don't have time
to rest properly, even after night sleep.
Is there any cure for diplopia?27 Nov 2005 07:44 GMT10
I am a man that has diplopia (binocular) , being affected by that
disfunction from 13 years ago (car accident and coma)...
Is there any way to cure that illness or am I doomed to have forever
this "double sight"?
Prism correction26 Nov 2005 00:00 GMT16
I've posted a few times on here about how I'm currently doing vision
therapy.  I'm having some sort of eye teaming/convergence problem, and
the doc identified that my eyes relax slightly outward.  I don't know
all the correct terminology to use.  I have a fairly mild Rx, almost

Strabismus presription?24 Nov 2005 19:58 GMT2
I have been cross-eyed since about 4 which was OK, except that now I need
bifocals.
Since I have a lazy eye and my head is always turned about 10 degrees to the
left, the bifocals need to be compensated accordingly (these bifocals are of
