Acuvue bifocal and IOL20 Apr 2005 04:45 GMT3
I currently have an IOL implant in my left eye, thus I've lost the
ability to focus up to 20 feet or so (my right eye has perfect
vision)...Would an acuvue bifocal contact lens in my left eye be a
possible way to correct this focal problem and thus eliminate the need
IOL technology20 Apr 2005 03:52 GMT2
Does anyone know how close technology is to creating an IOL implant
that changes shape and can adjust to focus at closer distances?
When I had my cataract surgery in October 2003, my doctor made it sound
like this type of IOL technology will eventually occur...I had assumed
ARMD and aspirin20 Apr 2005 03:01 GMT3
Since macular degeneration is concerned with serum, blood leakage of small
vessels, would not the use of aspirin and other blood thinners be more
cautiously used?
Cure for Cataracts and Presbyopia 20 Apr 2005 02:28 GMT20
I just found out about "Crystalens".  It seems everyone but me knows about
these lenses.  A Google search uncovered some information.  Basically it's a
implantable lens like those use in cataract surgery but this lens is on a
hinged support that is attached to the eye muscles that ...

I need to have an ICL and crystalline lense replaced by a standard IOL
put in my right eye, and am trying to decide what to do - advice welcomed!

Independant fine/small controlled eye movement must be normal19 Apr 2005 15:37 GMT6
I want to try and work out why people seem to disagree with this idea.
Its not obvious to me why they disagree.
There appears to be a concensus view on this list that eye muscle
control is from a single central point.
Strabismus18 Apr 2005 23:06 GMT24
Hi, I have strabismus.  It seems to be getting worse or maybe i'm just
imagining it.  I was wondering if there are any ways that can prevent
it from getting worse or reverse the process without surgery.  I've
been told that once its been with me through adulthood, its hard to
Prescription for glasses vs contacts?18 Apr 2005 22:10 GMT2
When one has vision benefits with a company, and is normally
required to wear safety glasses on the job, will the eye exam
prescription for glasses also work for wearing contacts, or do 2
separate eye exams have to happen to do both?
Asymmetrical activation of human visual cortex demonstrated by functional MRI with monocular stimulation.18 Apr 2005 20:45 GMT2
I have reported here a few times that I have observed that patching one
eye appears to stimulate the opposite hemisphere because verbal
responses to questions seem to reflect left/right brain differences.

New to Contact Lenses18 Apr 2005 13:02 GMT8
Have been a long time bifocal lens wearer and have recently decided to
try the new multi-focal soft lens contacts.  Had my vision checked and
eye measured at a large chain optical store.  They ordered a pair of
Ciba Progressives for me to try and have been using them for a week
ARMD views18 Apr 2005 02:33 GMT3
In macular degeneration, how well do the symptoms reported by the patient
correlate to what the ophthalmologist sees via OCT and direct retinal
photographs?  That is, can the ophthalmologist "see ahead" of the reported
symptoms, or is the "inside view" always better?  Or what.. ...
school myopia17 Apr 2005 22:44 GMT43
Andrew:
I read most of the "school myopia" piece, and appreciate your sending
it.  Quite an exhaustive review of the literature on the subject. One
thing that stood out was the prevalence of myopia in Taiwan. The 80%+

Valid period for spectacles Rx - Texas17 Apr 2005 16:08 GMT14
I can't find anything on point in regard to this issue.  I know that
federal law (and by extension Texas law as enacted) requires an Rx for
contact lenses to be valid for a minimum of one year.  Most
dispensaries interpret this as "no more than one year", but that isn't
