contrast sensitivity06 Jul 2004 19:42 GMT1
I'm a 43 yr old who is addicted to tennis.  On a bright sunny day, I can see
the ball clearly from the other end of the court all the way to my end of
the court.  Yet, when the skies are overcast, I don't see the ball clearly
across its entire path.  Depending on the background, I ...
Prescription question06 Jul 2004 16:02 GMT1
I'm a 53 year-old guy and have a yearly eye exam.  Here is a chart of how my
prescription has changed over time ( I couldn't find 2000 and 2001):
1999  O.D. -5.00   +.50     89   add +1.50
        O.S. -5.00   +.50   103   add +1.50
Post-cataract surgery issues06 Jul 2004 06:14 GMT2
I am 39 years old and have been myopic most of my life, about -3.00
both eyes, and have comfortably worn glasses.  I had surgery for
posterior subcapsular cataract in one eye 4 months ago, mainly to
correct a nighttime glare problem that worsened after vitrectomy
Environment/Hereditry myopia -  Where's the data???05 Jul 2004 23:50 GMT38
This debate is  like a comedy show with 'where is the data' being the punch
line.  I thought I would drop in and add a bit to the humor.
I  am research lawyer.  My job is to provide enough evidence to convince a
jury,  which does not  always need hard evidence.  My job requires me ...
High-quality eyeglass lenses05 Jul 2004 18:35 GMT20
I am looking for a source of high-optical-quality eyeglass lenses.  I am
highly myopic (-10.75 diopters in the right eye, and -9 in the left).  I
used to have Zeiss Tital lenses.  These had an index of refraction of 1.7,
and an Abbe number of 39.3.  I was pretty happy with those ...
Focus Day & Night - in the morning film develops05 Jul 2004 18:05 GMT4
Hello, I am new in here and also new regarding contact lenses. I got
these Focus N&D few days ago, and for the first couple of days I was
taking them out at night, put them in that peroxide solution over
night and put them back in in the morning...For the last couple of
What's the effect of Contact lens Base Curve?05 Jul 2004 05:58 GMT6
I know what the base curve is and that it should closely match the curve of
your cornea, but how does a doctor decide which to use?  E.g. 8.6 vs 8.9mm
seem really close -- how critical is it?
And, how does an incorrect base curve affect comfort?  I have one lens at
About wearing glasses all the time04 Jul 2004 19:09 GMT26
I just got glasses and am a bit hesitant to wear them because they
start ruining your eyesight if you wear them all the time and make you
dependent on them. I was wondering if contact lenses do this to your
eyes too. I used to wear contact lenses and I don't remember this ever
UV damage to eyes and skin04 Jul 2004 17:54 GMT1
I'm living a pretty sunny location.  And my eyes have slightly
yellowed on both sides.  I thought it was from using bad day contact
lenses which I had to press into the eye to get out and damaged them.
But the optician (although not good in the country I'm in) I saw said
Does under prescribed lenses makes computer work more comfortable?04 Jul 2004 01:17 GMT7
I am moderatly myopic, around -3.5D for both eyes. After going to the
optician today, I've found that it is actually more comfortable to use
under prescribed lenses, say by around 0.5D, when doing near reading.
I've never noticed this (since I've never tried under-prescribed
suggestions for progressives02 Jul 2004 21:00 GMT2
I've been a wearer of progressive lenses for the past three years.  My
last set of glasses has a very narrow field where my distance vision
is in focus.  Objects off axis by more than about 5 or 10 degrees get
soft.  I unfortuantely don't know what mfgr's lenses they were made

Where is a prescription measured?01 Jul 2004 21:41 GMT2
Since the correction value (diopters) varies based on the distance of the
correcting lens from the eye, where is the "official" measurement point?
There seems to be about a 2 or 3 diopter difference between the correction
power required by glasses and that required by contacts (due ...
