LASIK v. Soft Contacts16 Mar 2004 03:13 GMT2
My soft contacts sure blur up at night. Especially trying to read neon
signs,
roadsigns that are anything but big.
Is this a problem with LASIK.
Contacts without Prescription15 Mar 2004 23:07 GMT2
I am going to be in the US for the next 6-10 weeks and need some more
contact lenses (Acuvue 2). I am visiting from the UK.
Can I obtain lenses without a prescription from most suppliers
i.e. Walmart? Or will I have to take an eye exam before I am able to
Help!  Company Discontinued Contact Lens!15 Mar 2004 09:06 GMT2
I have been wearing the same contact lens for approximately 14 years,
and haven't had any issues or problems.  Recently, I attempted to
order a new pair only to discover that the lens (Durasoft 3, D3-X4)
has been discontinued by the manufacturer (Wesley Jensen / Ciba
Autorefractors and children - not a good combination13 Mar 2004 19:18 GMT27
Autorefractors tend to induce "instrument myopia", wherein one tends to
accommodate during the measurement process, causing the readings to be more
myopic.  Children, especially young children, do this very much, because
they will not just focus on the instrument target that is ...
Optometry School - What major?13 Mar 2004 05:16 GMT5
After taking a trip to Trinidad and proscribing glasses through the
Focometer, I became interested in pursuing a Doctor of Optometry.
Although I'm currently freshman with a declared major in Civil
Engineering I plan to change my major next fall, but I don't know
Compare contact lens brands--(acuity achieved)12 Mar 2004 19:58 GMT1
I was curious to get some feedback on CL quality/acuity.
Last year I wore Extreme H2O -5.75 and -6.00---because with my dry
eyes, they were the only brand I could tolerate.
Now I've just been trying the Acuvue Advance in the same powers--which
Getting an accurate prescription12 Mar 2004 03:20 GMT15
It seems like every time I go for an eye exam, the prescription
is never accurate.  When I get glasses made, they feel "too strong"
for my eyes and I end up having to get the prescription lowered
slightly.  In fact, even when the machine is adjusted so that it has
Soft Toric Bifocals12 Mar 2004 00:48 GMT1
Help.  I have been trying to get info on a toric soft bifocal contact
lens but no-one seems to sell them. My OD said he doesn't know of
them.  I am 45 years old and can't stand wearing glasses. I have the
following vision problems: mild right eye astigmatism, mild bilateral
two-toned eyes11 Mar 2004 20:44 GMT2
I met someone with this striking feature, and I'd like to know if
their is a name for it:  The outer rim of their irises are a different
color thatn the rest of their eyes.  Green circled by blue, as though
they were wearing too-small green contact lenses over blue eyes --
Polarised Sunglasses11 Mar 2004 20:34 GMT4
I do quite a bit of driving and at this time of year (winter) there
can be strong glare from the sun low in the sky and if the road
happens to wet, it can almost be blinding.
I already own a pair of "ordinary" Ray Bans, but on my last check-up
Impaired Light Perception - Terrifying11 Mar 2004 18:48 GMT2
I have sporadic attacks in which the light around me seems to dim.
This happens suddenly and both eyes are affected equally. On many
cases 12:00 noon seems likes 9:00 PM. Visual perception is otherwise
unaffected. Colors, images, depth, and motion are clear. Wierd!
Decreased vision after cataract operation10 Mar 2004 22:47 GMT3
I had a mild cataract removed this past Feb 10 as a preliminary step
to the removal of a retinal wrinkle (macular pucker). The wrinkle
decreased my vision from 20/30 to 20/40 in Nov 2003 and to 20/70
before the cataract operation. The retina surgeon said the cataract
Are flat panel computer monitors better to eyes than CRTs?10 Mar 2004 20:58 GMT3
If I understand right, flat panel computer monitors or laptop monitors
use liquid crystal while regular monitors shoot electrons to the front
of the monitor. I wonder if there's any study showing that the flat
panel monitors cause less harm to eyes in any way. Thanks.
Daily contact lenses10 Mar 2004 19:53 GMT4
I'm using contacts for the first time ever and I use daily contact
lenses only. Let's say my figures are as follows: Left: sph: -3.0,
cyl: -1.0, Right: sph: -3.5, cyl: 0.5. Could I buy monthly lenses with
the same receipt figures or do I need to go and check my eyes once
Rotation of lenses throughout the day - Preference Toric10 Mar 2004 16:03 GMT4
I'm hoping some of the MDs on this board can recommend possible
solutions to this problem with my right CooperVision Preference toric
lens...
I recently ordered new lenses from my ophtalmologist. My right eye
