?OT: Cochrane concludes you can't eliminate dust mites30 Apr 2008 03:52 GMT8
Once again, the Cochrane collaborative, by looking at other studies,
concluded that the National Asthma guidelines for dust mite removal/
reduction are useless. Here's an internet article on it:

Chronic Sinus infection23 Apr 2008 17:26 GMT17
I've been dealing with a chronic sinus infection for about 6 months now.
I've been on all sorts of antibiotics including Augmentin, Amoxicillin,
Cipro, Levoquin, Tetracycline and nothing is getting rid of it!
I've even tried a Neti pot, but it really irritated my sinuses after using
Gag reflex21 Apr 2008 11:22 GMT1
I have a lot of mucus flow in the morning.  It is both post nasal drip
and runny nose.  One of the problems is that I get a lot of mucus in
my throat and this makes me gag.  When I try to run in the morning, it
is even worse.  I have tried gargling with salt water in the morning
rating doctors19 Apr 2008 22:40 GMT1
Does anyone know of a website or other source I can search where patients
rate their doctors or the state puts out some sort of rating or compliance
list?  I'm in Washington state.  Thanks
Best antibiotics to use19 Apr 2008 06:56 GMT8
Sinus infection worsening so it might be doctor time.
Last major one was 1-2 years ago and about 4 weeks on Biaxin XL seemed to
work pretty good.
Just curious so I'm asking this most knowledgeable group:
Clogged nasal passages18 Apr 2008 18:37 GMT6
I know I've asked this question before, but maybe someone has some fresh
ideas.  My nasal passages are perpetually clogged.   I use a saline solution
twice a day and a little flonase during the day to clear them.  When I go to
sleep I suck on a menthol cough drop.  That seems to ...
Do I tough it out18 Apr 2008 04:09 GMT8
OK-- another damn sinus infection.
Interestingly, it started about 4 days after I came off a 4-week course of
cipro due to an unrelated problem. But the weather has been changing here
and that is often when the sinus problems occur.
The Color of Snot18 Apr 2008 02:17 GMT1
Well, I'm sure there is a more PC way to state the subject, but what the
hell....
I started getting a sinus infection a week ago and it's worsening each day
now.
Hookworms, anemia, autoimmunity and the HIF-1/EPO/cathelicidin pathway induced by iron deficiency17 Apr 2008 06:40 GMT1
Recently published research shows that hyrdoxylase inhibitors have
gastroprotective properties through the induction of HIF-1a, thus making
them a potential medication for leaky gut problems [PMID 18166353,
18166352].  Low iron conditions and iron chelators like EGCG also
The inflammatory effect of purulent mucus17 Apr 2008 06:35 GMT2
When I get discolored post nasal drip from sinusitis, I can feel it
almost burning in the back of my throat and even my larynx.
Besides the thick mucus being physically irritating, does mucus from
sinusitis contain chemicals or antibodies that are inflammatory to
Acid Reflux/Sinusitis: Chicken or the egg?16 Apr 2008 20:46 GMT5
I've seen this discussion here quite a few times and I'm wondering if
we've come any closer to understanding the relationship between these
two diseases.  I'm leaning towards believing that acid reflux is
causing my sinus problems.
can orthodontic work damage sinuses15 Apr 2008 02:17 GMT1
I posted this to the dentistry group before  I realized that I should
have cross-posted here as well. I apologize for the oversight.
I had braces as an adult to bring in two impacted canine teeth. Before
the orthodontia I had colds each year that sometimes led to sinus

Not really OT: doxycycline helps in MS14 Apr 2008 04:36 GMT5
Found this in JAMA:
I need Elizabeth to fully understand it, but I think the matrix
metalloproteinases are somehow related to biofilms. Interesting use of
an antibiotic to treat an auto immune condition:
