Post-Prostatectomy Shopping List
I compiled this shopping list of paraphernalia that it would be good to have
on hand when you get back from surgery starting in  September 2001 before my
own operation based on responses I got to a request here for suggestions.

Stuffy nose on beta blockers12 Sep 2005 23:11 GMT2
I've noticed since I started taking Flomax that my nasal passages seem
a bit swollen. It's harder to take good strong breaths through my nose
when hiking, say. No extra junk in my nose, just the passages narrowed.
My pharmacist told me yesterday that this is a plausible side-effect ...
Got some magic pills, what to do with them?12 Sep 2005 13:38 GMT12
I just got back from seeing my primary doctor. No-one had even told her
I had the RRP (so much for professional courtesy). So I told her all
about it, gave her a 10 minute consciousness-raising session on PCa and
PSA testing, etc. (She's a really great doctor, BTW, always ready to
Hand Paiins after RT12 Sep 2005 00:19 GMT28
I've been here lurking and trying to get my energy back and not think too
much about my PCa. Don't know if I said in my last post that the oncologist
thinks my higher PSA after RT may be due to my large prostate. the effects
of ADT wearing off, and a tem-delay for the RT to take ...

Post Op Day 8.11 Sep 2005 22:58 GMT4
Today is the first day that I feel more or less back to normal.  They
told me to expect a week to ten days, and that seems right.  The swelling is
gone and there is only minor irritation at the bottom of the scrotum.  I can
feel the tubes running down there and that is ...

Penile Doppler11 Sep 2005 03:59 GMT5
Has anyone here had a penile doppler test? (I hope that I get a summons
doing 80 in a 35) Anyway, sounds like a procedure that should be done at
a bordello with the Marquis de Sade looking on.
Post Op Day 6: Swelling down; leaking up.10 Sep 2005 21:23 GMT7
Noticeable reduction is swelling in the testicles yesterday.  That was
good, but today I have noticed a return to normal in the leaking department.
I suppose the swelling down there had something to do with my unexpected
return to almost total continence.  Not really good ...
Post Op Day 4.10 Sep 2005 20:59 GMT4
The big event of post op day 3 was the awakening of the intestines.
Normal BM.  No pain.  I took the last pain med Monday morning.  The nurse
called on Sunday and suggested that I start to wean off the Oxycodone and
start with ibuprofen.  I still had pain in my side, so I did ...
AMS 800 Post Op Day 2.10 Sep 2005 20:19 GMT8
The surgery was Friday morning.  They did two procedures.  One was the cysto
to go in an open up the opening at the anatomists.  It was about one third
the size that it should have been.  The second procedure, of course, was the
implant of the artificial urinary sphincter.  I ...
