PSA Testing, the scientific issue22 Jun 2004 12:26 GMT4
There has been a lot of discussion of the recent study reported in the
New England Journal of Medicine.   On the one hand too much has been
made of it because the results reported are not surprising in light of
what was already known.  If you look at Walsh's 1995 book on prostate ...
Back home & recuperating22 Jun 2004 10:22 GMT8
Well, I guess the worst is over.  My surgery (RRP at Memorial Sloane
Kettering Cancer Center) was Thursday afternoon - from 2-6pm. There wasn't
enough room in recovery for me, so I didn't get there until 7:30pm.  I awoke
around 9pm and was moved to my room around 1am.  It was a long ...

Date set for my neighbor.22 Jun 2004 04:59 GMT3
I had mentioned previously that one of my neighbors told me he
had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.  His Gleason is 8; I forget
the PSA, but it was not real high, maybe 15 (I guess that is bad
enough though).
HIFU {Albatherm vs Sonablate} ?22 Jun 2004 01:55 GMT9
I see that there have been a couple of threads on HIFU {High Intensity
Focused Ultrasound} in here over the last couple of years, but nothing
that I can find in the last 6 months or so.
At age 56 I have recently been diagnosed with PCa, PSA 4.6 Gleason 3+4

I'm back home now. Doc reports both nerves spared, no visible sign of
tumor outside of prostate. Lymph nodes of course clear. Pathology
report available by end of next week. Needless to say I am really
happy.
PSA Undate21 Jun 2004 17:21 GMT9
Just had my 19-month post-op PSA checked and it came back *undetectable*.
My stomach has been tied in knots lately.... but that's one less thing to
worry about.
Take care, all!

I've been on Lupron for eight months and having the usual problems with
hot flashes and no libido.  Started 200 mcg selenium daily about a month
ago.

One Liners19 Jun 2004 18:33 GMT7
Ok, I recently  posted that hubby became bald in "that area" due to
radiation therapy.  I am not so good with a quick wit, so I was
wondering if anyone could help me with some one-liners to make his life
more miserable than it is now?  The "Willy and the bald twins" thing was

In your post today you mention that PSA results are not valid when
on Lupron. Please expand on this if you will.  Reason, attribution,
publications, etc.
Thank you,
Tomorrow's the day19 Jun 2004 04:40 GMT8
Well, the time has finally come.  All the tests and preparations are now
over.  I am to arrive at Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center at 8:30am
and my RRP is scheduled for noon.  Can't say I'm glad to be going, I guess I
can say that I'm glad the waiting and accompaning anxiety ...

I'd like to take this opportunity to remember Robert Vaughn Young.
Those who have been here for years know what kind of man he was.  But for
the roughly 100 newbies in the last year....
Bob was originally from the northeast.  Seattle, I think.  He was a U.S.
