saw palmetto not effective?28 Feb 2006 20:49 GMT15
WEDNESDAY, Feb. 8, 2006 (HealthDay News) -- Millions of older American men
use the herbal supplement saw palmetto to treat an enlarged prostate, but
a new study concludes the product doesn't work.
A few smaller studies had suggested the extract might be of limited
Cystoscopy-Antibiotic28 Feb 2006 20:46 GMT2
Is is common practice for a uro to prescribe antibiotics for a normal,
otherwise healthy  (other then BPH) male prior to cystoscopy?
Patrick, we need you!28 Feb 2006 03:54 GMT8
Subscribers going back some time will remember important postings by
Patrick, who may have been the first person on this list to tell us
about PVP. He gave much time and energy to clarifying and shedding
light on individual cases. I would like to correspond with him briefly

anesthesia for cystoscopy?26 Feb 2006 18:49 GMT16
I am on my way to pvp. Urodynamics was quite painful when the tubing
hit the
constriction. Therefore, it seems reasonable to assume that cystoscopy

Horror Story about Gen Surgeon's Visit26 Feb 2006 05:33 GMT3
Don't know if any of you would like to hear my story about my visit to a new
general surgeon today, since it's not directly related to BPH.  But don't
forget rectal/perineal pain is part of the dreaded CPPS and prostatitis, and
I say there can be a relationship between ...
post-cystocopy flow rates?25 Feb 2006 19:52 GMT1
I'm a Prostate Cancer patient who had (and still has) prior BPH,
(72 cc), EB Radiation and then HDR Brachytherapy in mid July 2005,
where they basted my prostate to a huge blistering mass.
I left  hospital wearing a Foley Catheter for 4 wks and then did some
Tests for blockages after PVP23 Feb 2006 22:33 GMT28
Yesterday, I visited Dr. Lin because I was still having flow problems from my
second PVP. He injected me with some sort of deadening which I assume was
lidocaine and then started a series of inserting some sort of metal rod down
my penis.  He would pull out the first rod and insert ...
Hytrin vs Flomax23 Feb 2006 16:42 GMT1
Just found this ng.  Old guy 81, have taken hytrin for about 10 yrs
and proscar for 3.  Also saw palmetto.  My family MD thinks Flomax is
better then Hytrin.  Have any of you people had this experience and
if so, what is your opinion.  I think the Hytrin is gradually wearing
Dilatation instead of pvp?23 Feb 2006 02:56 GMT7
There has been discussion here about dilatation (not "dilation"), but
no suggestion that this might be tried for bph as a step short of
surgery. I understand that dilatation may have to be repeated. Is
dilatation, balloon or otherwise, worth trying before moving to pvp?
What are the problems with Green Light Laser on a large prostate?21 Feb 2006 01:34 GMT58
My uro tells me that my prostate is too big for the green light laser.   He
says that the laser only removes a millimeter of tissue at a time and that
would take too long to do my prostate.   He says I should have a TURP using
the Gyrus device which removes more tissue.
pvp and urethral stricture21 Feb 2006 01:01 GMT2
How frequent is urethral stricture after pvp? And can cystoscopy cause
stricture?

Flomax Mode of Action21 Feb 2006 00:40 GMT1
Does Flomax decrease muscle tension of the prostate and bladder neck
back to a normal level, or decrease it below normal, to improve the
restricted flow caused by the enlarged prostate?
Or, put another way, does the enlarged prostate cause an abnormal
PVP on alarge prostate - Another view21 Feb 2006 00:24 GMT6
A couple of days ago I posted  (in the continuing large prostate thread)
that I was going for a consult at Clark Urology Center @ UCLA, with Dr.
Robert Reiter, who has been mentioned in this group.  My prostate is 170gms
or so. I had a TUMT about 4 years ago.  TURP has not been ...
