Open prostatectomy - any experience?29 Mar 2005 23:42 GMT1
My prostate is big - about 150 g, probably too big for a TURP. I've
started consulting with an out-of-town uro re PVP. So far, he is
saying he could do it, but can't predict the result... might need
another PVP soon after the first.
Cranberry supplement ?28 Mar 2005 20:10 GMT11
Have read here and there that cranberry juice/supplement is good
for prostate/bladder health.
Has anyone heard or had any real life experiences with this ?
Is this just another 'old wives tale' type of thing ?

My uros advice is to undergo surgical procedure for my BPH. Lately, the condition is affecting my life too much, having to get up almost every hour and a half during the night and being unable to sit during a long theater performance.
As I don't feel like surgery, I started today ...
PVP vs. indigo27 Mar 2005 02:26 GMT4
I guess I assumed all lasers were alike.I saw a Urologist who strongly
recommended a PVP with a greenlight laser..........who is about 60
miles away. However, he does not participate with any insurances. His
fee is $1600. I was going to borrow it and be willing to pay a co-pay

I am 55 in generally good health and physical condition, except for a
large prostate (~90g) and significant post voiding urinary retention
(pvr).  I ran from my former uro's office when he proudly anounced that
he would perform a TURP on my then 108g gland!  I found a local uro who

Problem passing water during the night only.21 Mar 2005 02:02 GMT14
Why is it that I have no problem passing water during the day, yet I wake-up
three times during the night needing to go and then only manage a trickle?
And even that takes a long time and a lot of coaxing.
Then in the morning after moving around for approx. half an hour, ...
My PVP at 32 hours20 Mar 2005 05:28 GMT1
I am 68, my prostate was 50 grams, and my symptom score was 21 even
while taking alpha blockers (terazosin 10 mg).  I had a ThermatRX
microwave procedure 3 years ago which did not give lasting relief, and
overall was much more painful than this PVP.
