Has anyone had the Greenlight procedure for bhp? Comments, please.
bph symptoms30 May 2004 05:20 GMT2
I'm 25 years old and I have problems urinating. I'm convinced it's
something to do with my prostrate because a couple of years ago I took a
slimming supplement containing ephedrine (heavily used it for about 8
months). My symptoms started around that time and having done some
Info on post PVP29 May 2004 21:58 GMT28
I have learned a lot from all you folks on this newsgroup, thank you.
I am a 51 yr old who has just had the PVP done last week.  Large medium lobe
and down the middle zapped.  The procedure went well and the only real
discomfort was the general anthesia caused me a bit of nausea ...
Question about anesthetic for PVP28 May 2004 23:44 GMT4
I have heard from different people who have had differing methods of
anesthetic. Some have had spinals others have had general.
The doctor who will be doing my PVP said he uses a local anesthetic
administered directly to the nerve that goes to the prostate area.
still can't self-cath24 May 2004 22:43 GMT4
It's been awhile since I've reported in. I'm the guy who can't
self-catheterize himself. I saw my uro for a final effort at self-cath
last week, and neither of us could thread the catheter into the
bladder. I asked him why he can so easily thread the larger permanent

Re interest in Proscar or medical term "Finasteride".
From the National Library of Medicine:
Side effects are not common, but they can occur.

PVP op refusal22 May 2004 16:22 GMT3
I have not posted for some time because of poor health and also the fact
that I had been refused a referral to Mr Muir with the hope of a PVP op. by
the urologist Mr Almond at HRI.
The present position is: my GP requested that the local PCT fund the op, of
self-catheterization not working22 May 2004 15:16 GMT16
I try to thread the catheter into the bladder to self-catheterize
myself, but nothing comes out. I certainly push the catheter in far
enough. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
Flomax causes Hiatus Hernia22 May 2004 03:28 GMT11
Warning I only took Flomax for 6 months but sure as hell wish I hadnt and
that PVP had been available sooner
Because the hell that is HH and all the horrible tests like Gastroscopy to
diagnose it beat any possible fleeting discomfort or delayed recovery from
Proscar and PVP20 May 2004 07:44 GMT24
I have been told by my urologist that once you have taken Proscar for
a prolonged period of time, your urethra, the channel through the
prostate,  becomes fiberous, and you are no longer a good candidate
for PVP treatment as the resonant frequency of the tissue is no longer
PVP free to Ontario residents19 May 2004 23:28 GMT3
Just thought I'd put this in for information. For those in Ontario
wondering about this, the news is great. PVP in Ontario is fully paid
for by the Ontario Health Plan.
If you opt for TUNA, on the other hand, it will cost you extra! A

Avodart17 May 2004 22:52 GMT1
I am a 57 year old who has been diagnosed with BPH.  I have been following
this newsgroup for a little while now and found the information here
invaluable.  I found out on my own about Saw Palmetto which I have been
taking for about 3 months now.  It helps with the flow but not ...
secretive urologists16 May 2004 09:20 GMT6
I have now twice had the experience of asking urologists newly listed with
laserscope, how many pvp's they have done. For those of us who have followed
the list, this is an obvious measure in deciding who to see. In each case,
the office has treated this as a laughably ridiculous ...
PVP in Houston?15 May 2004 18:40 GMT1
Anyone have experience with a Houston doctor and PVP. I suspect that I
need  surgery and want to start tests with a urologist that's capable of
PVP. So far I've seen one urologist who said he doesn't do it. He says
he's afraid that it's (relatively) untested and that scarring ect ...
