I can't believe what I saw on CNN!06 Jan 2004 20:00 GMT53
CNN aired a program today on diets and controlling your
weight. They gave seven principles for weight control.
One of them was to "eat a low fat, high carb diet".  Don't
they have experts vet this stuff?

Trans fats06 Jan 2004 05:31 GMT3
In these latter days I'm attempting to eliminate as much as possible all the
"bad stuff" that I've been existing on for years.  One of the foods I've
given up is butter.  In it's place I've come to love Brummel and Brown's
oleomargarine.  However, one thing bothers me.  Although the ...

When good doctors go bad.06 Jan 2004 01:33 GMT2
I've found a lot of good stuff on mercola's site, www.mercola.com but it
seems that at least of late, he is not doing his homework.  For example, a
recent study found that calorie restriction enhances respiration, but
mercola says:

Inflammatory enzyme 5-lipoxygenase and atherosclerosis05 Jan 2004 14:24 GMT1
A new study by Dwyer et al. [1] just published in the New England Journal
of Medicine found an association between a variation of a gene called
5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) and an increased risk for atherosclerosis, or
thickening of the arteries. 5-lipoxygenase is an enzyme which converts
Men's Fitness Magazine is junk science05 Jan 2004 05:22 GMT3
So Men's Fitness has its "fattest cities" list out again, of course
it's all over the news.
This "study" by Men's Fitness is junk science. What's really sad is
that other sources report it as if scientific fact.
Re When good doctors go bad.05 Jan 2004 04:27 GMT1
No question that the person who reviewed the study likely didn't know a
whole lot about basic biology, but the scientists found that respiration in
enchanced and not slowed, in the calorie restriced species studied.  You
can't blame the scientists for the reporter' stupidity, but my ...

this may be a strange question04 Jan 2004 00:14 GMT22
I have noticed that if I take shower in the morning, I get really
tired afterward such that I need to lie down. I like hot shower.
Actually, I need it hot even in summer. I think that it is the heat
that wears me out. I have starting making  a point of adjusting the
