Can I have negative blood tests but still have herpes?30 Apr 2006 00:02 GMT1
A few years back I had a test for HSV1 and HSV2 and both were negative.
A year ago I had a test for bothe again and HSV IGG was positive.
A few month ago I was tested for both again and both negative (even the
IGG that was positive before).

Just an update, hubby received a new liver in February.  As part of his
medication regimen, because he is now immunosuppressed, he takes acyclovir
800 mg 3/day to suppress cytomegalovirus - also a member of the herpes virus
family.

I've been thinking about how often my patients and others I speak
with want to emphasize very strongly to me that they didn't get their
herpes from promiscuity. I even state that in my own personal herpes

I recently learned that I have HSV2 antibodies. This means I might be
contagious if I have unprotected sex, even if there is no visible
outbreak - is that right? (At least that's what the doctor told me who
carried out the blood test)
