A week from Monday is Memorial Day in the U.S... the kick off date of
all those summer parties.
So now that it's BBQ season... give yourself permission to be human.
There is a lot of great food that will be out there.  Don't try to
visit with new GP21 May 2006 17:15 GMT27
Yesterday I had my first visit with my new GP.  The person I had seen
perviously was the one who had given me my diagnosis in two sentences
("Has anyone ever told you that you had diabetes?  Well, you do.") and
left the room.  Hence the *new* GP.  :)
Splenda = 10x sugar?21 May 2006 16:57 GMT9
On the Splenda box it says Splenda sweetening power is ten times that
of sugar. It also says "measures cup for cup like sugar."
With a 10x sweetening power, wouldn't you use one tenth of a cup of
Splenda? I don't use it in baking but in coffee it does seem to

In September, I will be travelling to Amsterdam for a long weekend
(travel Friday pm, return Monday am), where I will be taking part in two
days of jujitsu training and competitions.  I am Type I, still on pork
Mixtard (30/70).
Delurking and asking..What's the use?21 May 2006 11:03 GMT30
Have lurked here on and off for a few years, never posted.  The d word
is something I don't like to dwell on.  And, if some take me for a
troll, I can't say I blame them.  When you hate something as
ferociously as I do 'd', a post like this one is going to be may set
Surito Tortillas21 May 2006 09:50 GMT5
I don't know if you can get these in your area because they are made in
Seattle.  But if you can, I highly recommend them.  I was skeptical at first
because I've tried other "low carb" tortillas.  They either had soy in them
or they spiked me.  These sounded too good to be true, and ...
Benfotiamine Reversed My Retinopathy21 May 2006 00:47 GMT1
I had been getting Laser treatments for Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy
in both eyes for about 10 years.
A nutritionist told me of studies that had shown that Benfotiamine (Fat
soluble thiamine (I think that's vit B1))
2 interesting studies re: coffee's (and decaff's) effect on glucose, insulin, GLP-1 and GIP21 May 2006 00:37 GMT16
I've been considering adding at least decaff coffee back to my diet
(being completely depressed without it ) and after digging around
for info on how coffee affects blood glucose tripped over this study.
I did a search here and didn't see it posted before in either group,
Genetics explains differing rates of diabetes?20 May 2006 21:52 GMT23

Certainly we all know that genetics plays a crucial role in who gets
diabetes, and we also know that Jared Diamond is a highly respected
writer on human historical trends.
Even the experienced can screw up!20 May 2006 20:40 GMT5
As a little background, I've been taking "trigger point injections" of
steroids to help with back pain from a fall I took at work several years
ago.  To make a long story short, apparently I react STRONGLY to
relatively small doses of steroids (I cursed quite eloquently at my
