| Just Diagnosed | 29 Apr 2006 12:28 GMT | 7 |
I have just been diagnosed with late onset diabetes (age 50) and am really unsure what to do. I have been given a diet sheet, which seems to say eat anything in moderation, which is not a lot of help. I have been referred to a dietician, three month wait and a clinic like

| It's not just the docs, it's the labs too | 28 Apr 2006 23:23 GMT | 12 |
My husband had his physical last Friday, along with a bunch of fasting bloodwork. The bloodwork came back yesterday (his is pretty much normal, though could be better I think - fbg 92, hgbA1c 5.2) and right on the lab results sheet it had for the fasting "Normal < 110".

| Diagnostic Criteria for Impaired Fasting Glycaemia | 28 Apr 2006 23:13 GMT | 6 |
My last UK lab result (September '05) gave the limits for IFG as 6.1mmol to 6.9mmol (inclusive). This is (near enough) equivalent in mg/dl to the range 110 to 125. My FBG was 5.8 which puts me in the 'normal' range. However, I see a lot of references on the web that take the ...

| Byetta and insulin | 28 Apr 2006 23:02 GMT | 3 |
I'm a T2 who uses Humalog exclusively. My endo has suggested switching to Byetta. I got the impression that Byetta was a subsitute for insulin, but its Web site says it is not. Anyone using insulin who has switched to/added Byetta? If you

| High Glucose readings | 28 Apr 2006 19:29 GMT | 13 |
I'm currently on treatment for liver disease and I am weaning off prednisone. During this process my glucose level has shot up causing blurry vision. My doc said it was a side effect of the drug. My concern is what is happening to me while the glucose is elevated. I was

| MRI Three Magnet Body Tube | 28 Apr 2006 15:41 GMT | 24 |
Today was my second MRI. The first, about ten years ago, generated a rapid pulse and hyperventilation that mercifully calmed after two to five minutes. The machine was "open" but didn't seem open to me as my nose was an inch or two away from a mirror that pointed at a blank wall ...

| Glucerna Bars-- pros and cons | 28 Apr 2006 12:57 GMT | 4 |
I've always rejected Glucerna Bars because their carb content is so high. But one of the diabetics with the best control in my support group said that he gets good numbers from them because the carbs act more slowly. I bought a box of them at Costco today after noticing that 10 ...

| Back from my foreign adventure | 28 Apr 2006 12:31 GMT | 19 |
I went on vacation to Ghana for two weeks. During that time I did not test. I know that this is theoretically wrong, but it was something I needed to do. This trip was a celebration for someone else, the beginning of a new life after a very dreadful old one. In celebrating this, ...
