BG when sick11 Apr 2006 16:55 GMT4
After a few weeks of good control, my bg numbers have skyrocketed.
My fasting is 200 -210  (for a few weeks before usually 85-100) and
during the day rarely comes down below 200. This
has been for the past 4-5 days during which I have come down with a
Yet another medical cause for diabetes discovered.11 Apr 2006 13:10 GMT2
I wonder if there is anything that *doesn't* cause or increase the
chances of diabetes?
It seems that Lithotripsy, a common treatment for kidney stones is now a
culprit. I have had this myself, twice, but well before I was first

Someone posted this on the low carb newsgroup....it *seems* to me that it
ought to apply as well to many T1s who attempt to cover high BG swings after
eating really carby foods. For that reason, I'm posting it here.

I'm wondering about cholesterol levels and T2 diabetics. When first
diagnosed my fasting CHOL was 8.2.
However, it's now 6.1, having been on 40 mils of Lipitor per days, for

There're still companies manufacture meters that check glucose in Whole
blood.
It's now known that such meters results are 11% to 15% Less than those which
check glucose as in plasma.
Have I got Diabetis11 Apr 2006 02:32 GMT8
Wonder if you can help.  A few months ago I went to the chemist and had
a free blood pressure and glucose test.  This came back as 6.1, she
asked if I had eaten anything I lied and said I had just eaten
breakfast 10 minutes prior (I had not eaten anything at all since the
Artificial sweetener preference test10 Apr 2006 22:35 GMT4
One thing I wished they'd discussed is that different people have
differing abilities to taste the additional bitter/sour/metallic tastes.
Also, many of us find that mixing two or three of the sweeteners
New findings link "abnormal" collagen to diabetic limb loss10 Apr 2006 21:58 GMT5
Rather curious that they hadn't examined all aspects of neuropathy
before this. I wonder whether cosmetic "anti-aging" collagen creams
would benefit those with healing problems?

To Delboy - before you have a TURP -10 Apr 2006 17:44 GMT1
Delboy had posted a reply to a post about initial diabetes diagnosis,
where he mentioned being scheduled for a TURP (trans-urethral resection
of the prostate) to treat frequent urination.  I found the thread late,
and my post went unanswered, so I'm trying again with a new post.
SHOULD BE GOVT-ISSUE BG TESTER AND STICKS10 Apr 2006 17:31 GMT31
It seems to me that an enormous amount of money could be saved on
Medicare, Medicaid and general insurance costs if the U.S. Government

strips).  Since there are millions of diabetics in the USA, there is a
