Frustration08 Mar 2006 18:39 GMT13
I will restrain myself from expressing my true feelings on
this one. If I appear to be less than enamoured of the NHS,
ADA or Diabetes Australia advice to type 2's, this may help
you understand.
Diabetes and tendonitis - causal link?08 Mar 2006 18:03 GMT11
An acquaintance who is a T1 is adamant in her belief that her thumb
and finger tendonitis is a direct result of her diabetes.  My
acquaintance happens to be a life-long needlewoman (knit, spin,
crewel/embroidery, etc) so I'm thinking that 40+ years of "pinch
Beta-cell burnout?08 Mar 2006 18:01 GMT48
So, Monday I have an appointment with the endo.  She's been telling me
all along that she's got "something else" she can add to the
metformin, but only if I lose some (more) weight.  I'm guessing this
is one of the TZDs, which I've already decided I won't take.

What does your Metformin smell like? 08 Mar 2006 17:16 GMT52
I've noticed a fish-like smell from my last two bottles of metformin.
I've never noticed this before, but this last bottle is very
noticeable.
I'm rather concerned about this as I'm highly allergic to seafood.
Insurance limits for testing supplies08 Mar 2006 14:08 GMT6
I was diagnosed Type 1 (at the time the term was "Juvenile Onset")
almost 25 years ago, and at the time home blood glucose testing was
just emerging. It took some persuasion before the insurance company
would pay for test strips etc. (well, lots of doctors didn't know about
Taxes and diabetes08 Mar 2006 13:28 GMT23
Actually I didnt know what to name this post.
Today, I went with my daughter and we had our taxes done.  One of the
women there, that I have known for over twenty years, has told me she is
diabetic.  She is about 45 or so and is at least 100 lbs oveweight.  I
Free glucose monitoring website08 Mar 2006 11:28 GMT2
I just finished redesigning I created on here a while ago for recording
and tracking glucose readings - http://www.phalken.com
I just spent some time updating it and adding some features that people
asked for. Particularly cool is the chart feature.

Hidden trans fats08 Mar 2006 08:56 GMT38
This article in WebMD reports on "top 10 trans fat foods."
http://www.webmd.com/content/Article/118/113024.htm
I have been on the lookout for trans fats for some time now, but this
article points out that manufacturers can legally advertise "no (or 0) trans

Improv07 Mar 2006 14:13 GMT7
This may seem a bit out-of-place - please forgive me if you think so.
Several years ago I bought Windoze 3.1 Lotus Improv, a *very* useful spreadsheet/data management program.
Now I've contracted diabetes (bum) I think that an Improv document might well be my best way of tracking ...
Things are getting worse, rather than better07 Mar 2006 12:39 GMT25
I don't know what's going on, I'm shaking around the clock now.  Got
almost no sleep last night because of bouts of the shakes plus night
sweats (could be female hormones but who knows).
Snacks don't seem to be enough to stop the shakes.  And the shakes are

Indian Stiry-fry w/ Pulao 07 Mar 2006 05:28 GMT4
I'm working through one of the cookbooks I picked up.
I made a nice vegetarian stir-fry tonight. The recipe is posted on A.F.D.
or at: http://www.bigoven.com/recipe160694.
I accompanied it with a brown rice and lentils (Pulao)
