Conversion of clinical data to SI Units12 Mar 2006 01:26 GMT5
It strikes me that many of us may be sometimes perplexed and confused
by the international  differences in the units used in reporting test
data, especially for measurement of such things as blood glucose
levels. If it may be of assistance, here is a site maintanined at  the

I have noticed recently with my numbers being so far out of
whack, that I am having to change what I am eating. My current
carbs per day is 100 g. I am finding that things I have always
eaten with good effects are now causing me to go high. I can no

Boiled or steamed?11 Mar 2006 23:23 GMT5
Just out of curiosity!
Which would be better for skinless chicken?
Got a bit of a debate at work regarding this as i thought that if your
steaming your chicken then any fat in it will drip into the pan as if your
a1c is down!11 Mar 2006 23:17 GMT13
Down to 6.3 from 6.9.  Pretty good I think, considering that one of those
three months was pretty much nothing but wildly high numbers.
Looking back, I thought I was doing the right thing.  Trying to eat low carb
with all those eggs and that cheese.  But now I know that the food ...
Beginning of diabetic retinopathy11 Mar 2006 22:43 GMT12
I had my diabetic eye test last week, and was told that I have a very
small hematoma in one eye.  I asked the significance of that and was
told that it represents the beginning of diabetic retinopathy and that
I probably would need laser treatment in a few years.  He asked my A1C,
Training costs.11 Mar 2006 22:28 GMT3
No diopter or other advanced degree person should have to
have any debt from their training.
The training has a gross social benefit and the public should
put out their few bucks to cover these people that are
Testing before meals - what numbers are good?11 Mar 2006 22:27 GMT43
In 10 days a friend from NY is coming to visit.  He is type 2, on metformin
and something else that begins with a g.  He says his doctor has told him to
test only before meals.  Since he is an argumentative type, we will surely
get into a discussion on this one, since I believe ...
Positive attitute & positive results11 Mar 2006 17:10 GMT19
Being anal retentive that I am, I have had my 7th consecutive A1C in the
5's. I have reduced my metformin to 500mg 1x/day. When I first reduced
it from 2 pills to 1 pill, I just took the 1 pill at night. Now that
I've refilled my prescription, now the instructions are to split ...

gram. That works out to @4100 calories per pound.Previously I understood
there was 3500 calories per pound of fat. This is about a 17%
difference.What am I missing?Have the goalposts moved.
Need suggestions for low-carb, high-calorie food/snack11 Mar 2006 15:57 GMT9
I'm not overweight, and get a lot of exercise, including weight
training.  I've found that replacing what used to be staple foods,
such as tortilla chips, graham crackers and ice cream, with
low-carb stuff, has caused me to lose weight that I didn't want to
Diabetic Friendly Pancakes11 Mar 2006 15:32 GMT6
I just posted a recipe for low carb pancakes that taste pretty darned good.
I can actually eat  these in the a.m. and get a 1 hour PP (post pancake)
number of 106.
That's using the sugar free syrup...not the blueberry or strawberry sorbet
