Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm unable to quote from them, as for some reason, my message never showed up on my news reader and therefore I had to go use google to read the replies. I must have something set wrong.

| How long is a fast? | 19 Mar 2006 22:13 GMT | 2 |
How long is it necessary to go without eating to get a good FBG reading? When I went for a blood test I was told to fast for 12-14 hours, but I think that was necessary for the triglyceride test rather than the FBG test. For the FBG test I've seen 6, 8 and 8-12 hours quoted. ...

| Recipe: tapioca pudding | 19 Mar 2006 21:49 GMT | 28 |
I just crunched the numbers for my basic tapioca pudding. I have not made this in months because I figured it had to be horrible - I saw a spike of nearly 300 after I ate two spoonsful of the stuff at a salad bar, after all.

| Liver dump behaviour? | 19 Mar 2006 21:16 GMT | 22 |
Today I have a mystery (or it is to me). I ate 1 1/2 ham sandwiches for lunch (1 wholemeal, 1/2 white because that's all that was left) - a bit more than I normally would. Typically, I would expect that to cause a peak of no more than 7.5

| Do Not Try This At Home | 19 Mar 2006 21:05 GMT | 61 |
Dug out the leaflet I was given telling me what to eat to control my not-diabetes. Hands up who wouldn't score into the double figures following this diet?

| Strips by the skin of my teeth... | 19 Mar 2006 21:00 GMT | 47 |
Last month, no strips were forthcoming, and there was a note stapled to my prescription bag saying they were "looking in to it". This month, my repeat prescription slip has the strips back on it again, with "AS STATED BY HOSPITAL" printed underneath. I asked; the practice is not ...

| home A1c test | 19 Mar 2006 19:15 GMT | 9 |
I've been buying the Choice DM home A1c test at Walgreens, but my local store no longer has it. I can't even find it on the Walgreens web site. Drugstore.com says it requires a prescription in New Jersey where they are located. I could get a prescription, but that seems so

| Baffling Labs | 19 Mar 2006 15:05 GMT | 52 |
I'm completely baffled by my latest labs. My control as measured by my bg meter has gotten much much better, and my A1c has gone up! I've been using basal insulin since the beginning of January and my fasting and post prandial readings have dropped by at least 20 mg/dl

I was looking at some older messages and found mention of a forum site set up to help diabetics. I went to have a look. Guess how many minutes it took me before I found Peter C being the same
