Insurance coverage for testing supplies31 Mar 2006 22:54 GMT15
I was wondering what I can do to reduce the cost of testing supplies
(strips mainly) ?
Does your insurance cover these supplies ?
I am testing 8-9 times a day (its the learning phase of my experience -
Turmeric question31 Mar 2006 22:41 GMT17
I was advised to add turmeric to my diet.
Does it help / hurt a T2?
What is the best way to use it?
I have the powder.....not the capsules.
gotta stop driving myself insane!31 Mar 2006 20:18 GMT1
I've been diabetic for 5 years and for the first 4 1/2 years I worried about
anything and everything regarding my diabetes.
I have always been kind of anal and a worst case scenario type of person.
I always read the cutting edge news concerning diabetes. BTW, I'm type II

Decided to start metformin31 Mar 2006 18:05 GMT12
Well, I researched metformin and decided to give it a try.  My new doc
recommended it after my A1c 5 months ago was an atypically high for me 6.1
or 6.3, can't remember exactly.  At that time I totally resisted going on
meds.
a.s.d. and life.......31 Mar 2006 17:21 GMT11
Someone commented (thank you) that it was nice to hear from me in the
middle of my heaviest work period (tax preparer with 2 weeks to go!).
However my sense of humor is suffering.
I think I'll tell my family to post a "farewell"  message on my google
Bill (S.1955) Will Leave Many Diabetics without Diabetes Coverage!!31 Mar 2006 17:10 GMT24
In a FEW SHORT WEEKS Bill called Health Insurance Marketplace
Modernization and Affordability Act (HIMMA, S. 1955) will come up for
vote in the Senate and if it passes it will be HORRIBLE for the
Diabetes Community.  It overrides state laws that insist upon diabetes

SAN CARLOS, California -- John Patton wants diabetics to know it's OK
to hate needles. Even the toughest customers flinch when a sharp
syringe meets their flesh. And even the tiniest needles cause a micro
Speaking of family medical history.........31 Mar 2006 16:06 GMT12
When diagnosed in 1990 I thought the only other Type 2 diabetic in my
family was my mother's aunt (who eventually died of it in the 1930s).
Last summer I was invited to a "reunion" of my father's side, in
Montana, all descendents of a Swedish immigrant in 1862.  I'd lost
Rec: Lite Rice31 Mar 2006 13:50 GMT13
I drifted away from my diet a bit while I was traveling so I'm in pay-back
mode. Did some grilled salmon with an orange scented beurre blanc for dinner
tonight. Had some roasted cauliflower on hand along with a bit of cooked
brown rice. So I came up with a low(er) carb twist on ...

Looking for some suggestions from insulin and/or prednisone

I have a friend doing chemo, including prednisone. He is
type 2 and also has CLL. And before you reply - he is well
How accurate are test meters?31 Mar 2006 11:28 GMT6
I've been reading and learning in this group for some time now.  Most of my
questions have been covered by reading the posts of the knowledgeable
members of the group.  Thank you everyone for your unwitting help however I
wonder if anyone can help to explain a recent observation.
Aaaaagggh!! The cravings.....31 Mar 2006 09:37 GMT4
Morning, all (or whatever your local equivalent is)
After getting my T2 reasonably well under control with diet and
exercise, I've eased off on the diet (28lbs down now), and I'm holding
steady.
Byetta - 92 after eating cake?????31 Mar 2006 04:18 GMT16
This byetta is pretty unpredictable! I ate for breakfast 1/2 a turkey sub,
and a piece of chocolate cake.  I felt fairly bad after eating it, but
really felt like it so I did. Checked my blood 1/2 hour later and it was
136.
Golly, you don't say!31 Mar 2006 04:01 GMT4
The educator at my endo's practice pointed out to me today in the
course of my bolus insulin training that a "good" hbA1c isn't
necessarily indicative of good control.  I've seen this little factoid
mentioned here a couple of times and it makes perfect sense that this
