Helpful book on working through disease02 Aug 2005 07:26 GMT18
This evening I was listening to Dr. George Noory on KFI radio at 10 pm
though 5 pm.
He has this wonderful guest on who is the most educated doctor I have
ever heard.
Third trip to County Med Center02 Aug 2005 06:57 GMT13
Went to County Medical Center for my second refill of Metformin.
SEVEN hours later...
The triage nurse took a reading... used a blade style lancet.
Pressed sooo hard before triggering it, I can probably still squeeze

Any relation between grams of carbs eaten and rise in BGL?02 Aug 2005 01:33 GMT27
As per the Subject...
It seems that if I eat something with 40 grams of carbs, I get a 40
point rise in my BGL (at the 1 hour mark).
Other amounts of carbs give similar results.
A Warning for newbies trying to cut sugar; hidden sugar in unexpected places! 02 Aug 2005 00:28 GMT26
I'm a newbie (day 5) and trying to get stable, so I'm now (after a
blunder or two) reading the label on EVERYTHING.
Today, I had the idea of having a couple of bits of meat with a lunch
salad I'm planning, so I thought "ahh, a few bits of good quality
A Simple Question -- I Just Hope It Doesn't Get Nasty02 Aug 2005 00:24 GMT46
I've seen some very heated debates about the ADA and I've wondered
about this for awhile now.  I'm feeling particularly brave this
morning, so will go ahead and ask the question, but I really hope it
isn't just adding fuel to the fire.  :-(
Is It Time for the Next Step?02 Aug 2005 00:24 GMT49
First, I want to thank everyone for all the super advice.  (Does
anyone under 30 say "super" anymore?  I guess it should be "wicked
kewl" or something like that?)  You're a great group, and even the
trolls are worthwhile as an example of what not to do.  :-)
Like talking to a brick wall01 Aug 2005 23:03 GMT24
Had a friend stop by tonight.  He's T2.  Has been for years.  When he showed
up last summer he had huge sores all over his toes.  I explained to him
about amputation.  I guess he was of the "It won't happen to me." school of
thought.  Well, they aren't amputated...yet.  He's been ...
What I ate today...01 Aug 2005 20:51 GMT142
Told Chris J that I'd start this thread again.  Remember the rules...just
what you ate.  No diet wars allowed.
I'll do yesterdays and today's to start 'cause I've only had two meals so
far today.
Insurance question (USA)- Should I keep my diabetes a secret? 01 Aug 2005 20:05 GMT33
I'm newly diagnosed, and I don't know what to do about my insurance.
I've got a basic hospitalization plan from State Farm, it's got a
fairly large deductible and I pay 80% of everything after that.
I've been with them for over ten years, no claims, but my rates have
newly diagnosed Type 2 in Australia ~ help!01 Aug 2005 18:51 GMT55
I am newly diagnosed as type 2 diabetic.
Can't remember what my numbers were on a 2 hour GTT, but enough to freak out
the endocrinologists.
I am 38. Female. 5'4" and weigh a lot .. 118 kg (~259 lb)
Newbie questions01 Aug 2005 18:42 GMT27
Doc tells me I have "metabolic syndrome".  My last fasting blood glucose was
116 up from 114 (steadily going up).  Has me on 2000 mg metformin/day.
Wants to add Actos once a day.  Says it will put on weight.  Anyone have
experience with this?  I'm already packing way too much ...
Animal Insulins01 Aug 2005 18:02 GMT104
Howdy folks,
I've been doing some skivving lunch reading on the net and came accross a
page or ten on the IDDT site regarding lantus "concerns".
It would appear that lantus is not quite the wonder insulin it's been pegged
Lantus oddness01 Aug 2005 16:53 GMT1
Normally, when I inject Lantus, I inject it into my hip.  I achieved
very good control with my regimen.
However, I decided to inject it into my abdomen for a time last week.
I made sure to do it in the opposite side of my belly as my Novolog, to
