I'm new here, and my 8 year old stepson was just diagnosed with type 1
last monday.  He was hospitalized while he was visiting his real mother, so
his father and I are just starting to take the classes to learn about all
there is to know before he gets home.
Testing in a restaurant23 Aug 2005 01:15 GMT596
Has anyone ever been told that they could not test or inject insulin in a
restaurant?  It happened to me last night.
Me and Erick went out to dinner and a movie. We stopped at an Outback
Steakhouse for dinner. After we ordered, I did my finger poke to test. I
Accu Chek Aviva22 Aug 2005 23:06 GMT5
Got back from walmart and found Roche has a new meter called Aviva.
Five second reading.  Meter costs $68 and $46 for 100 sticks.  The
accu chek web site had no further information so I called accu chek

High before noon numbers?22 Aug 2005 22:37 GMT68
For quite some time now I have had excellent BG readings after noon
and most of the time even first thing in the morning.

10:00 a.m my BG will likely be up between 160 and 180. It will stay

What then is the significance of this series on "Maximizing the
'incretin effect' through diet and supplements (#1-5)." Calypso was
applying a hypothesis that sufficiently augmenting the incretins GLP-1
and GLP-2 through diet and supplements would have the same effect as
Grapeseed oil vs Olive oil22 Aug 2005 18:44 GMT3
I know this is going to sound like a silly question, but I can
get organic grapeseed oil (imported from Australia) for 2/3 the price
of extra virgin olive oil.
I've never used grapeseed oil. We use olive oil for everything except
Can't sleep22 Aug 2005 18:20 GMT23
I'm really depressed.
Only first week of testing and I find it difficult seeing those seesaw BG's. I radically
changed my eating habits, eating low carbs, I take walks every day.  Sometimes I get a BG
of 7.5, I'm really happy then the day after 9.4, down again, up again. Sheesh.

Whar is new?22 Aug 2005 14:16 GMT1
in the distant past,   eye doctors or an  eye exam were the
first sign of diabetes. When the current hysteria settles down
we will return to sanity.   Money has a lot to do with this insanity.

Chris -
Kefir is a fermented milk beverage.  As with the making (culturing) of
yogurt, bacteria are involved.  Unlike yogurt culture, merely
transferring a tablespoon of good kefir to the culture jar doesn't

ACE inhibitors22 Aug 2005 02:09 GMT3
My blood pressure has escalated over the past six months from 140/90 to
170/105 and my GP has started me on an ACE called Ramipril.  This is
supplied in a staged (titrated) pack working up from 2.5mg/day for a week,
then 5mg for 3 weeks and then starting on the full dose of 10mg/day ...

The photographer for the interview piccie came today. He wanted me holding a
mountain of veggies and grinning, chopping a load of veggies and grinning,
and eating a carrot and grinning! I have a horrible mental image of what
they could do with a piccie of me with a carrot in the ...
