Smell of sugar/carbs07 Oct 2003 04:31 GMT40
Yesterday I went into a conference room where there had been a meeting and
there were boxes of leftover donuts, pastries, muffins, and rolls.  The
smell was so sickeningly sweet, it almost made me nauseous.  I guess this is
a good thing, my body was revolting against that stuff.  ...
Diabetic food store in Denver area?07 Oct 2003 04:31 GMT3
I will be moving back to Colorado.  I wasn't diabetic when I left.
Are there any stores that sell sugar free chocolate or baked goods,
low-carb pasta, that sort of thing, in the Denver-Boulder area?  So
called "health" food stores are useless.
Low carbing07 Oct 2003 01:24 GMT21
I see a load of folks over in the american groups talking about meals that
contain no more than 35g of carbs ...... does anyone here think that like me
that they'd die if they tried to live on meals of 35g of carbs?
I know for a fact i have more than that in my mid morning snack! ...
Low Carb diet and insulin requirement07 Oct 2003 01:14 GMT18
I am an insulin deficient type 2 diabetic and recently went on a low carb
diet. My diabetic meds were going up and up and my bg was still not well
controlled on the recommended high carb/low-fat diet. I was switched to
insulin but then discovered low carb diets about 3 weeks ago. I ...
Diet and Diabetes a STUDY06 Oct 2003 23:33 GMT5
Finally, a study on a higher protein diet on HbA1c and diet.  This combo 40 30
30 is about what a Zone Diet is.  Bernstein, Atkins, etc. have higher
proportion of protein-- the results certainly seem intuitive, (as opposed to
counter intuitive).
Illness (cold) and high reading06 Oct 2003 23:28 GMT12
Newbie question follows.
I've read posts wherein people say that they were sick so their bg went up.
I thought at the time that it was because whatever medicine they were
taking or whatever comfort food they were eating contained more carbs than
What to Eat with Flu06 Oct 2003 23:10 GMT10
I have had the flu for the past two days.  Have not been able to keep
anything down.  My B.G. was 7.3 this morning and 6.8 during the day
yesterday.  What I would usually eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner I could
not eat now.  I am wondering what other diabetics eat when they have ...
Diabetes clearedup/cured06 Oct 2003 23:07 GMT29
I started a thread yesterday on the South Beach Diet and a claim by a
patient in the book that it "cleared up" his diabetes.  I took issue with
this and there was some good discussion.
But it started me thinking.  Diabetes is one of many chronic diseases.  I
checking in06 Oct 2003 22:54 GMT4
Hey all.
It dawned on me today that it has been over a year since diagnosis and while
I marked the occasion I didn't post an update and check in with the folks
who've helped me so very much.
recipes (going shopping)06 Oct 2003 22:19 GMT34
I have the general idea about starchy foods like pasta, potatoes, beans,
breads and veggies like corn and peas.  I have no diabetic cookbook yet
and may not have the cash until next month to buy books and such anyway.
(just moved)

was this a hypo?06 Oct 2003 21:07 GMT19
I think I had my first hypo today. I was at an all day color
guard practice. We went to lunch at Del-Taco. I took my dose
of starlix and ate one chicken soft taco. It seemed like
enough, I don't like to over eat. After we went back and
Subway + Execrise...06 Oct 2003 19:03 GMT14
Today, I checked my FBG level and it was 118.  I ate breakfast and went for
shopping today.  I took an Actos 15mg pill and other blood pressure pills
during my breakfast.  I went to the big shopping center one mile away from
here.  I had alot of walkings to some stores because the ...

One touch meter06 Oct 2003 16:36 GMT6
I was testing my BG today and it was normal in all seven readings that I
took earlier in the day. The test before supper read 134 and I thought that
was a bit high, so I pulled the strip out and put in another. The next one,
seconds later, read 127. A tad higher than normal but ...
