| Smell of sugar/carbs | 07 Oct 2003 04:31 GMT | 40 |
Yesterday I went into a conference room where there had been a meeting and there were boxes of leftover donuts, pastries, muffins, and rolls. The smell was so sickeningly sweet, it almost made me nauseous. I guess this is a good thing, my body was revolting against that stuff. ...

| Diabetic food store in Denver area? | 07 Oct 2003 04:31 GMT | 3 |
I will be moving back to Colorado. I wasn't diabetic when I left. Are there any stores that sell sugar free chocolate or baked goods, low-carb pasta, that sort of thing, in the Denver-Boulder area? So called "health" food stores are useless.

| Low Carb diet and insulin requirement | 07 Oct 2003 01:14 GMT | 18 |
I am an insulin deficient type 2 diabetic and recently went on a low carb diet. My diabetic meds were going up and up and my bg was still not well controlled on the recommended high carb/low-fat diet. I was switched to insulin but then discovered low carb diets about 3 weeks ago. I ...

| Diet and Diabetes a STUDY | 06 Oct 2003 23:33 GMT | 5 |
Finally, a study on a higher protein diet on HbA1c and diet. This combo 40 30 30 is about what a Zone Diet is. Bernstein, Atkins, etc. have higher proportion of protein-- the results certainly seem intuitive, (as opposed to counter intuitive).

| Illness (cold) and high reading | 06 Oct 2003 23:28 GMT | 12 |
Newbie question follows. I've read posts wherein people say that they were sick so their bg went up. I thought at the time that it was because whatever medicine they were taking or whatever comfort food they were eating contained more carbs than

| What to Eat with Flu | 06 Oct 2003 23:10 GMT | 10 |
I have had the flu for the past two days. Have not been able to keep anything down. My B.G. was 7.3 this morning and 6.8 during the day yesterday. What I would usually eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner I could not eat now. I am wondering what other diabetics eat when they have ...

| Diabetes clearedup/cured | 06 Oct 2003 23:07 GMT | 29 |
I started a thread yesterday on the South Beach Diet and a claim by a patient in the book that it "cleared up" his diabetes. I took issue with this and there was some good discussion. But it started me thinking. Diabetes is one of many chronic diseases. I

Hey all. It dawned on me today that it has been over a year since diagnosis and while I marked the occasion I didn't post an update and check in with the folks who've helped me so very much.

| recipes (going shopping) | 06 Oct 2003 22:19 GMT | 34 |
I have the general idea about starchy foods like pasta, potatoes, beans, breads and veggies like corn and peas. I have no diabetic cookbook yet and may not have the cash until next month to buy books and such anyway. (just moved)

| was this a hypo? | 06 Oct 2003 21:07 GMT | 19 |
I think I had my first hypo today. I was at an all day color guard practice. We went to lunch at Del-Taco. I took my dose of starlix and ate one chicken soft taco. It seemed like enough, I don't like to over eat. After we went back and

| One touch meter | 06 Oct 2003 16:36 GMT | 6 |
I was testing my BG today and it was normal in all seven readings that I took earlier in the day. The test before supper read 134 and I thought that was a bit high, so I pulled the strip out and put in another. The next one, seconds later, read 127. A tad higher than normal but ...
