Life Expectancy?14 Oct 2003 09:52 GMT33
This morning I received an email from one of my medical resources,
Ahealthyme.com. It indicated that 1 in 3 people in the US may become
diabetic during their lifetime, however, the most frightening part of
the article concerned the shortened life expectancy  for both men and
severe dry skin feet and legs14 Oct 2003 08:56 GMT11
I have severely dry, peeling cracking paper like skin on my soles of both
feet and the scaley type skin on lower legs.  I am not having much luck
with lotions or creams I have tried.  Anyone find anything works well for
them either store bought or homemade?  I'm in Canada so some U ...
MiniMed Paradigm 512 with Link14 Oct 2003 08:24 GMT2
Does anyone have a MiniMed Paradigm 512 that is using the Link feature?  I
would like to find out more about this.  In particular, I am concerned
because I was told by a MiniMed rep that, once you check your BG and are
advised of the correction and meal boluses, these cannot be ...
Test strips covered in Illinois?14 Oct 2003 06:00 GMT22
I was told by a fellow diabetic yesterday that there's a law in Illinois
that requires health insurance to pay for testing supplies the same way
they pay for drugs, as long as the doctor writes a scrip for it.
I can't confirm this anywhere.  Does anybody know more?  Is a meter

Hello, my name is Scott and I started watching the newsgroup a few weeks
ago.  I found out that I can do a search of "Google" which I did to find out

There was someone using "Buck" but has not been used for a while.  ...
OT: Newsletters, List Serve...???14 Oct 2003 05:06 GMT2
Where do you go to find newsletters that come to your email address
everyday, or once a week? I used to subscribe to a diabetes one, but I
can't remember where I found it. Anyone know?

Why do people come here.14 Oct 2003 02:44 GMT26
A lot of people come here because they have diabetes
or are under stress.  Some of us are retires and have the time.
The real functions here are to spread diabetic information and

Dark Chocolate lowers BG?14 Oct 2003 02:06 GMT5
After six trials of adding unsweetened Baker's choc to my oatmeal,
I've found my 45 minute BG readings reduced by an avg 20 points over
the same meal without choc.  Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants.
The unsweeted choc (1/2 oz) adds a bitter taste that I counteract with

Doctor's Orders14 Oct 2003 00:52 GMT21
Hello again. Hope some remember me from "Urine Testing" and "So what is
Normal" threads. Sorry I've been up to my eyes with work stuff.
Got hospital blood tests back. Called in to see doctor (main one, not some
locum). Basically, I got the big lecture - the one I suppose a lot of ...

Just diagnosed with Diabetes and spending my first day out of the hospital.
After picking up my OneTouch Ultra test strips, I noticed that the strips I
used in the hospital were coded with the number 12, while the ones from the
pharmacy that I just picked up are coded "31". What is ...

I have been reading here of the varying times of day when people shoot
their one shot of Lantus. I have tried a few different times myself,
but now I am thinking of when is the "best" time. I currently shoot 22
units at about 7.15 pm. I lead a fairly sedentary life ( dare I say I
