I asked that question to post graduate perio students from Tufts at the Yankee Dental Conference in Jan 2009. They say they see it all the time. I say I never see it anymore. This is why epidemiology is important!!!

I had for a bunch of years a lower back molar with a small filling and a hairline crack in it. I used to get these odd sensations in it - not PAIN, but just little twinges which is how I knew something was up with it and that's when my dentist diagnosed it.
