Dental Cleanings - New Science28 Nov 2008 16:29 GMT13
A Cochrane Review of Dental Cleanings surprisingly showed no clear
evidence that they are effective. So if you have to pay for them,
there is at least some authoritative evidence that you could skip them
without harm.
What is the best dental school in North America? Worldwide?28 Nov 2008 16:23 GMT24
CA-DDS has been ranting about worldwide dental education. One of the
repliers stated that he/she had gone to the best dental school in the
US. IIRC, Temple and NYU were had their accreditation "on probation" in
the late 1970's. PENN and Harvard are overrated - in my hands-on, ...

jaw bone loss a result of aging?27 Nov 2008 15:31 GMT1
In the edentulous  the jaw bone usually shrinks over time.   Is it
because of (1) aging, (2)  poor nutrition, such as low vit D levels,
smoking, low calcium levels,  or (3) lack of teeth.
This shrinking is unpredictable.
Can it wait?25 Nov 2008 14:55 GMT2
I hope you remember the beginning of the saga about the damage done to
my teeth while a dentist was doing a reline of my partial.  I have
found a dentist who was highly recommended as one of the best around.
He is, however, very busy because he is so good.  I set up an

irrigation24 Nov 2008 03:13 GMT11
I had a dental cleaning today. The hygenist had on my chart to apply
"Antibacterial Irrigation-FM" Code D4997 for a fee of $46.25 which
insurance does not cover. The procedure involved a syringe filled with
a colored liquid which the hygenist squirted on my gums and teeth. It
Altered records?24 Nov 2008 00:28 GMT1
Does a dentist normally send only a summary of activity when they give
a patient their records?  The dentist I had so much trouble with sent
me my "records," but it wasn't what I saw in my file when I was last
there.  What does the dental code "9999" mean?  Thanks in advance.
Extracting Tooth 31 Next To Impacted 3221 Nov 2008 18:48 GMT6
A few years ago I had tooth 29 and 30 extracted due to bone loss. They
were crowned and loose. I still have 31 with some minor cracks and
some bone loss. The dentist feels it probably needs a crown, maybe
even a root canal which he'd know once he goes in. If it's in really
surgery21 Nov 2008 16:07 GMT1
I'm scheduled for a couple surgical procedures this month(arthroscopic
shoulder and an EGD), and I had some concerns about the anesthesia, as
ive heard that TMD problems are caused or made worse by the
intubation, and was hoping Smd could help me address these concerns of
Two naive questions about crowns21 Nov 2008 04:27 GMT3
Hi, I had a crown break 4 days ago and have had a temporary one fitted
pending the work to get a replacement.
Q1: Are there any particular allergic risks to the cement used or to
the material of the temporary crown? (I have suddenly developed a sore

My dentist seems rushed and rough. What can go wrong with a crown, the usual
things?
Crown Too High Again20 Nov 2008 04:06 GMT8
I posted 3 weeks ago about Tooth #2's crown feeling high. It hurt when
I pressed it. I saw the dentist the next day and he filed the gold
down a little. For 2 weeks after that it felt better and for the most
part, completely comfortable. I had my teeth cleaned a week ago, he
