Our dentist is going to do root canal on my son as tooth abscess. Will this treatment have potential damage to the permanent tooth? Is extraction the safest treatment?

I have some demineralization between teeth and it is stained. My dentist has given me some special past which should reverse the demineralization however I am wondering is the stain easily reversed as well (through bleaching)?
