Probably a stupid question, but I've seen these rubber tip thingys on the end of toothbrushes. What are they for? I know that they claim to be for massaging the gums, but why do I want that? Does it feel good?

I had a Root Canal (RC) in Feb 03. Started experiencing pain all the way thru and after the procedure... Wasn't sure the procedure went well...So never got the crown done. Right after the RC procedure, I changed my primary dentist.
