My husband died in June.  He had fallen and just didn't want to get out
of bed after that.  Had him taken to the hospital and found he had
fractured his elbow.  From there he was taken to a nursing home.  He had
a problem eating so lost weight and kept getting weaker.  He was there

I was able to take care of my husband during the early stages of his
Alzheimers. Then 4 years ago I needed immediate surgery for a brain
tumor.  Fortunately it wasn't cancer but did leave me with a lame leg.
Since then I wear a leg brace and hobble around using a walker. My

My husband died recently after having Alzheimers for several years.  I
fequently read posting from this group and found them very helpful.
Want to thank everyone - especically Evelyn who always gave such good
advice.  My husband was much easier to care for than some who post here
some good news28 Aug 2008 19:11 GMT1
Another update.
I just got off the phone with the lady who broke her hip.   Would you
believe that after only one day of bed rest after surgery, they
already had her up taking one or two steps on it?   Amazing.   They

Evelyn - my thoughts and prayers are with you and your father.  I hope
his friend and caregver has a good recovery from the hip surgery.  This
will probably improve his mood.  How did he get along with your mother?
Try to dwell on his goodness. The "golden" years can be difficult.  ...

You have probably heard me write about my 95 year old father, who
doesn't have alzheimers, but has sime degree of vascular impairment of
his brain.   He has moments of perfectly fine lucidity, but can
occasionally get disoriented etc., depending on the blood flow at the
Dad moving out27 Aug 2008 01:14 GMT4
My mom is the one with vascular dementia, and my dad has been living
with her in assisted living. She has taken a steep decline recently and
will have to move into a dedicated memory care unit soon. We are
postponing that move until after they celebrate their 50th anniversary
Dad & halucinations26 Aug 2008 18:56 GMT7
Greetings all - It's been a little over a year since I first posted and got
some very much needed help.  We've had a really good year considering how it
started.  Anyway, Dad has done well and I never would have believed he would
still be in his home and somewhat self-sufficient. ...
When is it not?26 Aug 2008 13:14 GMT4
My father has been diagnosed Alzheimer's, at my mothers urging, coupled
with doctors who dont know their patients anymore. I fear this will
affect any nursing home placement he may need.
Yes he is old-85. Yes he is forgetful. But only in the same sense we are
Warning Signs Question26 Aug 2008 00:14 GMT46
I've volunteered with the elderly for thirty-five years but am stumped
in regard to the behavior of an independent 80-something friend. Maybe
someone here can give me some feedback.
This woman has experienced far too much loss in too short a period of
Thank You All22 Aug 2008 18:31 GMT2
Thank you all so much for the warm welcome.
It is so comforting to "speak" to others who are experiencing this
painful situation.
After two days of "normal" behavior, Mom was very confused today.
Can things get any worse? Scabies? Yes it is.21 Aug 2008 09:18 GMT2
Thought I'd post a follow up on scabies.
My Dad, me and dad's three sitters have itched for weeks without a
definitive answer. I went to a quack dermatologist who never listened to my
story of 5 people being infected/infested. I got a diagnosis of Yeast
The 36-Hour Day18 Aug 2008 18:54 GMT12
I've seen a couple of posts here about The 36-Hour Day and it sounds
like something I need to read.
I'm going to check with the book store tomorrow and if not in stock will
order it.
