Brother-in-law31 May 2008 20:43 GMT14
He sleeps most of the day, complains he is very tired. But he stays up most
of the night.  We cannot get him to stay awake during the day.  I visited my
daughter about 50 miles away and when I came back, it seemed like he had aged
so much. Maybe it is my imagination.
Paid Caregivers Holiday & Vacation Pay?28 May 2008 06:23 GMT1
Does anyone know if this is mandatory in NY to pay time and a half and
vacation pay to a live in caregiver, or is this between the employer
and the caregiver? Does anyone pay their caregiver those extras?
Thanks!
A good movie26 May 2008 13:08 GMT2
For anyone who would like to rent a good movie (that touches on alzheimers),
there is one called "The Notebook" that we just rented and watched from
Netflix.   It was very well done.   We both liked it in spite of the fact
Peter called it "a chick flick"..... :-)

Just found this NG and I must say I almost feel guilty about posting here,
but here goes.
We have been caregiving for almost 5 years. Husband and I are both retired
and had some plans to do the things we always wanted, but I guess it wasn't

furniture for room14 May 2008 02:28 GMT3
Hi, all,
Well tonight hubby and I are going to put some furniture into my mom's
nursing home room.  She's only had a bed and nightstand in there to date.  I
don't know how she'll react when she sees a loveseat, bookshelf and other
Advice, please12 May 2008 18:45 GMT15
Hi, I am Brenda from Tx and have been a lurker here for awhile.  Hubby
was diagnosed with AD in 2001.   He is now in a locked facility which
with the cost of his meds runs about $6000 a month.  I had to sell our
house and am living rent free in a house of one of my relatives.  We

Update10 May 2008 05:08 GMT6
Hi again, its Brenda from TX.  I talked to a attorney.   He wanted a
$5000 retainer before he would even  give me any advice about my
situation.  I thanked him and left.  Had to take hubby to the dentist
this week.  He had a fall in the locked unit and broke a tooth.   I
Has ANYONE heard about "Ozone Therapy"? or "Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy"?09 May 2008 07:57 GMT6
I am new to the entire deal.  My Gmom, who is the most wonderful person
in my life...my whole entire life, is suffering from this scary and
heartbraking disease.  I am her caretaker by choice.  I have had a lot
of tears and acceptance so far.  I don't think there are words to

Dad feeling strange07 May 2008 18:04 GMT4
My dad is 80 years old and stage 4 AD. More and more frequently says he
feels "weird" or "really strange". He says he doesn't hurt anywhere. I
question him further and he says he really can't describe it except to say
that he feels "disconnected from reality", whatever that means ...
