How important is your memory?31 Jan 2007 11:10 GMT1
Dementia has a profound impact on all our lives. Alzheimer's is a
really scary disease yet it's massively misunderstood and there is
still no cure for it. One initiative that is currently being pioneered
by the Alzheimer's Society in the UK is to create a 'Million Memories'

I just got home from 11 days in the hospital with an implanted
defibrillator.  I'm counting on feeling good again as soon as I heal from
the surgery.  Hope all are well.

Good bye Dad25 Jan 2007 12:25 GMT17
My father died this evening.  I have been suspecting something would happen
very soon, my sister, who lives nearby had a fantasy that when things were
close the hospital staff would move him to ICU.  As many times as I tried to
express my feeling that ICU would only be indicated if ...
This is getting too hard24 Jan 2007 02:45 GMT5
I have only posted here about 2 times in the past 7 years.  My mother was
diagnosed with AD 7 years ago.  Until about a year and a half ago she was
still talking and able to do a lot of things for herself.  Then she had to
be hospitalized a few times for UTI's and she really went ...

Nursing Home Care and Tax Questions14 Jan 2007 08:08 GMT1
Apologies if I'm posting to the wrong group.
I have the means to fully pay my father's nursing home bills (at least
for a while), and am willing to do so since the place I'd like him to
stay in may not take Medicaid. His gross income is a bit higher than
I have reservations13 Jan 2007 22:49 GMT4
Plane reservations, that is.  I'm flying out to San Diego on Friday, and
so is my brother.  We're going to see Mom, which will be very hard.
Last time we saw her she was demented and paranoid, but at least knew us
all, and spoke in full sentences.  Now she rarely speaks ...

OTP  Saw my cardiologist today12 Jan 2007 07:42 GMT2
My heart just couldn't stay in sinus rhythm; it is now back into atrial
fibrillation.  I'll be going to hospital next week (don't know what day yet)
for a heart cath, and then be admitted to take what he called "rhythm
medicine".  I'll have to be in hospital to be watched to
Mom slips further downwards.10 Jan 2007 04:50 GMT6
The staff at ActivCare La Mesa report that Mom, who stopped feeding
herself a couple of weeks ago, now has lost the ability to swallow solid
food.  They're going to give her pureed stuff and smoothies and the
like, but we're wondering how long she'll be able to swallow those.

Alzheimers and Light metals; A Connection ?
Some light metals has long been suggested to be a causal factor to
Alzheimer, it is only recently that Dr. Rosanna Squitti at the
University of Rome, has discovered a link between copper and
Mom's declining fast04 Jan 2007 20:44 GMT17
Last July, Mom could carry on semi-cogent conversations, although she
had no sense of time, thought she was in her forties, was unclear on why
I didn't remember her childhood, stuff like that.  But she knew all of
us, knew her friends, and could do basic self-care just fine -- ...
Is this permanent?02 Jan 2007 11:19 GMT11
My 81 year-old dad who was most recently diagnosed with "mild dementia"
had a heart procedure done three weeks ago (angiplasty thing) and since
then he's been basically "out of it." The first couple days were
terrible - extreme agitation, no opening of the eyes, etc. then it got
any foods that increase beta amyloid?01 Jan 2007 07:36 GMT1
I have come across a few reports that some food or drink or
spice will reduce beta amyloid.
But I haven't seen anything stating that such and such a food
will increase beta amyloid.
