I have recently heard from Gwen.
I don't know why she hasn't posted, but she is home and feeling a bit
better.
free nursing home care?  (UK)28 Nov 2006 09:22 GMT1
I am in UK. Would respite/nursing home care be provided totally free
in the case of an elderly person who is terminally ill with inoperable
cancer? He also has serious heart disease and severe dementia.

In February  2000, I had extensive back surgery to remove vertabrae, have
hardware inserted, and fusion done to hold everything together.  In December
2000, I went back into surgery to remove the hardware and have more fusion.
In July 2001, I broke my pelvis (right side) front and ...
Zyprexa question27 Nov 2006 15:56 GMT9
I have been extremely pleased with the effects of Zyprexa on my mother except
for one thing... since taking it her "intellectual" side seems to have been
blunted. She seems less interested in political issues, less able or willing to
understand news stories, and more contented with ...
Anesthesia & alzheimers27 Nov 2006 13:13 GMT13
From everything I have ever read, anesthesia & alzheimers is a very very bad
idea.
Heard today that my father, who has Alzheimer's (PROPERLY diagnosed only
this year, but evident for several) is slated to have a hip replacement.
Legal question26 Nov 2006 18:21 GMT3
First I would like to thank all the participants of this NG for
helping my family and I a couple of years ago regarding my father's dementia
Dad was still driving then and everyone promptly told me to get rid of the

Really OT!  Unwelcome (?) backyard visitor24 Nov 2006 21:27 GMT6
It's supposed to be quite mild in the Denver area today, altho at the moment
it's overcast and kind of dreary.  Always the positive thinker, I took a few
items out to the clothesline instead of draping them over the rack in the
laundry room.

My wife, age 85 was diagnosed with mild AD this week after some recent
memory loss. She has been in reasonably good health. She was referred to a
neurologist who specializes in AD and he came to this conclusion after an
MRI and other tests in his office. He has suggested she ...

My great aunt is 92, physically fit, alert and observant, and can hold a
conversation and has no medical problems apart from a very poor short term
memory (of recent hours, days, & years) and is considered a dementure
sufferer.
Heard from Gwen22 Nov 2006 04:40 GMT1
Gwen wrote me briefly that she has been ill and was in the hospital a bit
last week.   She said she was home now with some medication changes.   She
is certainly in my prayers and my thoughts, and just thought some of you
here might want to know.

Hi.  My mother's doctor has said she has early Alzheimer's and put her on
Reminyl.  She is also having or has had several mini strokes.  She loses an
few minutes to an hour here and there and at times appears to be
intoxicated.  She has also been put on 4 breathing treatments per ...

Hi, I've just joined this group. Although my mum hasn't been diagnosed,
she seems to be showing symptoms of mild cognitive impairment for the
last year and I am worried sick that she will go on to devlop
Alzheimers or dementia. I seem to be in tears every day. She is 71 and
Brian Ginty15 Nov 2006 00:45 GMT2
Hi Brian,
Sorry you couldn't make the board meeting this morning.   Good news is that
all went very smoothly and no fur or feathers flew.   Nuise has agreed to do
a separate "program" for her special meetings, and to let me alone with our
