Dad is finally ready31 Aug 2006 04:20 GMT8
My mom has had alzheimers for a few years now and my dad has been one of
those stubborn "I can do it myself" husbands who to date has refused any
significant help. But she recently took a turn for the worse. Now she can't
even stand up on her own, and can barely do so with ...
Responses to 'How's your mom doing?'30 Aug 2006 15:18 GMT6
I've read this group off and on for some time, this is my first post.
My mom was diagnosed with late-early to mid stage Alzheimer's in June of
2005.  I had suspected something beyond 'old age' and 'occasional
forgetfulness' was going on for a number of years. Until I moved her out ...
Moving Mom30 Aug 2006 15:06 GMT5
Hi all.  I've only been lurking here for about a week but thought perhaps it
was time to jump in with a question.
A little background - well, maybe not so "little".  My mother, age 78, has
been diagnosed with dementia.  We've done all the rule-outs for fixable

I am an expierienced electronic engineer, & was approached by a very worried
lady with a view to making  an electronic Tag  that she could attach on to
her husband who has alzheimer's, so that she would know when he had wandered
away from her, at a preset distance. I started ...
the ugliness of dementia29 Aug 2006 02:51 GMT2
Returned from my visit to the midwest to see my father who has been in a
rehab center for the last 11 months. He has advanced Parkinson's and normal
pressure hydrocephalus and dementia. He recognized my wife and myself and we
were sometimes able to have brief conversations. He is ...
New Enzyme Study Released29 Aug 2006 00:36 GMT2
Thought this would be of interest to us caregivers dealing with Alzheimer's
in our LO.
Not a "cure" but looks to be a new treatment to relieve memory lapses
in the Uch-L1 protein.
Diet & behaviour changes27 Aug 2006 22:50 GMT12
Has anyone noted or got any info on behaviour changes induced by diet in
dementia?
I know I'm kinda clutching at straws but I was looking after my father for a
few hours the other day.  He was "good" when I arrived.  He recognised me,
Help with "Physical" Problem - Update27 Aug 2006 12:58 GMT5
Dad saw the psychiatrist Thursday and the doc was rather puzzled by the PET
results as they didn't match up well with a previous MRI. The doctor said
that brain activity was lower in the left front lobe and right rear lobe
which is more characteristic of vascular dementia or ...
Dementia and Alzheimers!26 Aug 2006 03:52 GMT8
What is the difference between these 2 illnesses? Is one more severe than
the other? My Father-in-Law is 84 yrs. old and suffers from Dementia which
he has had for 18 months now. Your help will be appreciated very much. Lloyd
Help with "Physical" Problem26 Aug 2006 03:42 GMT20
Perhaps this is off-topic, but here goes...
My Dad seems to be in the early stages of Alzheimer's with mostly short-term
memory loss at this time. Maybe we'll know more when we get the PET scan
results this Thursday. He also suffers from long-term depression and a

Sundowning22 Aug 2006 23:07 GMT3
Well, hell.  Mom seemed to be settling in well at the group home, but
she's developed a really odd form of sundowning -- in the middle of the
night she overturns armchairs, strips off all her clothes, and crawls
into bed with other residents.  My sister had to hire a private duty ...
