This recent article from Japan shows that AD plaque can be broken up by
using the spice Curcumin. Curcumin is extracted from Turmeric and is
generally considered to be safe as  it has been in customary use for
centuries in India.
Modesty & bath time29 Jul 2005 06:04 GMT9
My MIL can sorta bathe parts of herself but she must have someone in the
bathroom in case she falls & she really needs some assistance. The problem I
believe is mostly due to modesty. I've only been doing this (caregiving
thing) for about 5 weeks now. I realize I'm still a babe ...

The hearing aid....28 Jul 2005 21:29 GMT5
Somewhat slightly off topic.... maybe....
Some of you may recall that we had to buy Ida a new hearing aid when she was
in the nursing home only a couple of months.   The audiologist came right to
the nursing home and fitted and tested her right there.   Shortly after that

Guardianship?28 Jul 2005 02:42 GMT20
Hi.... Looks like  a nice newsgroup here.   I'm reasonably lucky in that
mother's dementia has progressed slowly (it started in October of '92) and
she's become very sweet and easy to get along with for the most part.
That's the good news about her dementia.   I have a brother ...

PhilandBret27 Jul 2005 06:29 GMT9
(Back in 2001, I sought and found help for my mother here.  The posts
were entitled Wits End, PA.  She died a week ago today.  I delivered a
eulogy Friday morning at her funeral Mass, which I share today to offer
my thanks to this group, and any comfort it might offer to those on ...
Dementia & using a walker26 Jul 2005 06:52 GMT27
My MIL has vascular dimentia. She started using a walker about a month ago &
has had home therapy with a Physical Therapist & also Occupational
Therapist. She can walk a few feet, but she is quite unsteady so the walker
helps a lot. As is understandable, some days are better than ...
Dementia vs. Burnout?26 Jul 2005 03:50 GMT13
My father and I have been taking care of my mother, who has had AD for
about four years.  He is in good physical health, but I am concerned
about his mental health.  He's been more reluctant to go out, either
alone or with family.  He's obsessed with Rush Limbaugh (on the radio)
Update: mammography and dementia25 Jul 2005 21:19 GMT1
Have talked to Mom's primary care physician, who is also uncomfortable with
waiting. She has referred us to a breast specialist to review the films and
decide if a biopsy is in order. Her thinking, like mine, is that if this is
cancerous, better to get it out now with a ...
MMSE interpretations25 Jul 2005 14:05 GMT8
Can anyone tell me where to find a simple explanation of MMSE scores? Mom
had hers repeated yesterday, and although it is still relatively high, it
shows a 10 percent decrease in a year. I'm just looking for some guidance to
discuss it intelligently with her doctor.
mammography and dementia25 Jul 2005 05:18 GMT13
Mammogram shows Mom has a lump in her right breast. It was not on mammogram
15 months ago. Secondary views show it as well, but it cannot be seen on
ultrasound. The radiologist is saying wait six months and repeat the test.
Mom's mom died of breast cancer at a young age, so her ...
Hello and a brief introduction/summary - 23 Jul 2005 16:20 GMT6
You all seem like a nice bunch.  I've learned quite a lot by lurking here
for a few days.  I will probably stick around, if only to keep lurking.
For those of you who are caregivers, I wish I could express how your posts
have made me feel.  In short I have learned a very great deal ...
