Alzheimer's disease is characterized by progressive loss of cognitive
function due to amyloid-beta (A?) deposits in the central nervous system. If
these deposits could be stopped or slowed, Alzheimer's disease might become
more manageable. In the current issue of the Journal of ...
Memantine (Namenda) Please Help!!!27 Oct 2004 13:32 GMT19
My 82 year old mother has been on Aricept for a year now and just started on
the starter pack for Memantine four days ago.  We had high hopes about it
but I am afraid we cant handle the behavioral effects.  I constructed a wall
about a year ago to keep her out of the kitchen and it ...
OT:  My sig27 Oct 2004 01:00 GMT3
I don't mean to stir up political ill feeling with my sig line.  I post to
other newsgroups where we talk politics a lot.  I will try to remember to
deselect my sig while I'm here.
Memory26 Oct 2004 20:02 GMT2

Wife was dxed with vascular dementia in December and i'vr noticed that
sometimes her short term memory is markedly better than others.

Book Suggestion24 Oct 2004 14:37 GMT1
I have just finished reading a book that I think anyone connected to an AD
patient would find very interesting.  It is a God centered novel, but it has

Kingsbury with Gary Smalley.  If any of you read it, I ...

Today was probably one of the saddest and hardest days of my life. and
I don't mean to sound melodramatic, my heart hurts if you can
understand what I mean...
The plan was for my sister to call the doc beforehand and let him know
Yesterday was Bad then Good23 Oct 2004 14:42 GMT2
When I went down to the house for my daily "visit", Mum ignored me,
then wanted to know why I wasn't talking to her. She told me that no
one was taking her out of her home, the doc was going to treat her leg
problems, and she would start doing more. As gently as I could I
One more step taken23 Oct 2004 02:05 GMT5
We went to the doctor today and got Mom on aricept. Doctor was asking a few
more questions to make sure it was appropriate -- after all her MMSE is 29.
But I told her three incidents that occurred in the last two weeks and she
agreed meds were in order.

I have been lurking for quite a while on your board and wanted to say

My mother was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia in February and is
