Pep talk update30 Sep 2004 15:01 GMT3
Thanks to everyone for your encouragement. I went over tonight to sort out a
computer problem Dad had caused himself, and he brought up something she had
done last night where she had obviously forgotten something that had
occurred less than an hour before. He was commenting also ...
Problem with Mum's alcohol29 Sep 2004 04:42 GMT14
Now that Mum is really settled in the home, I have encountered another
problem.  She had blood tests as she wasn't getting out of bed and didn't
want to eat and now the Manager of the home is saying that as a result of
her bloods they have to take her sherry away.
Pep talk, please!28 Sep 2004 13:12 GMT4
We've gotten Mom fairly well sorted out physically. Her blood sugar is
coming under control, and her pacemaker is preventing those "spells" she
used to have. She scored a 29 on the MMSE, and her CT scan (no MRI because
of the pacemaker) did not show Alzheimer's type changes but ...
Eye rubbing habit (compulsion?)27 Sep 2004 00:44 GMT3
A 94 year old relative with dementia constantly rubs her one good eye.  She
lost the sight in the other eye when an infection entered the eyeball, and we
fear the same thing will happen with the other eye.  She has abraded the cornea
so much that she can no longer read, and the eye ...
New situation26 Sep 2004 15:36 GMT14
We are faced with the same awful catch 22 decision that so many here have
faced before us.   Ida suddenly became jaundiced.   They tested her and
decided that she had gallstones blocking a bile duct, though she is in no
pain.   This can lead to pancreatitis and ultimately to ...
Ditropan interfering with Reminyl?25 Sep 2004 12:46 GMT4
Howdy,
I withheld Ditropan (This medicine is an antispasmodic anticholinergic agent
used to treat overactive bladder with symptoms of urinary incontinence,
urgency, and frequency.) for a couple weeks after reading it may reduce the

Pop has AD, but is still mobile and semi-coherent, though easily confused.
It's early days, yet.
We've spent the last couple of months shepherding
him from the hospital to a nursing home to (after touring several different

I wondered onto this newsgroup in search of some intelligent
conversation and TRUE help for those of us who take care of a LO with
Alzheimers.  It looks like I may have found it.
In reading the most recents posts, I appreciate the book
Fish recipe22 Sep 2004 11:28 GMT7
People say fish is good for a diet. But fish should never be cooked in
butter. Fish should be cooked in its natural oils - Texaco, Mobil, Exxon...
fish oils and other supplements22 Sep 2004 04:57 GMT7
Howdy Folks,
I'm just getting ready to order some supplements that I thought would do no
harm and might be helpful for Alzheimer's (actually almost certainly Lewis
Body Dementia).  My Mom is fairly early, but has progressed a step or two
Zyprexa helping21 Sep 2004 10:28 GMT1
I've noticed a real improvement in my mom's disposition since she went on
Zyprexa...it's like I have my mom back, somewhat.  Now when she gets agitated
it's to a much lower degree and she gets over it fast.  And she gets agitated
much less often.  She doesn't seem to be suffering ...
Discovery may halt progression of Alzheimer's18 Sep 2004 19:39 GMT7
Here's a fascinating new approach to treating AD.

I would prefer that the government stay as much out of my life, and wallet
as possible.
Zyprexa question16 Sep 2004 07:44 GMT5
Hi...
How long does it usually take for Zyprexa to become effective in calming angry
outbursts?
My mom took her first pill (a very low dose, her doctor said) last night.  She
