RE: I thought it couldn't get worse...Thank you!!!!21 Aug 2004 00:10 GMT7
I talked with the nursing home this morning. The psychiatrist thinks Mom has
depression induced psychosis. I don't have a clue, but they're tapering off the
anti-psychotic drug and concentrating on anxiety and depression. The nurse
practioner thinks it will be better if I don't ...
I thought it couldn't get any worse...I was wrong20 Aug 2004 04:16 GMT6
Hello dear friends,
My caregiver counselor and precious friend, Pat, died yesterday from a
suspected heart attack. She has helped me so much during the last 18 months,
and I'm not sure I would have made it a couple of times if she hadn't been
Suggestions about Adult Family Care20 Aug 2004 02:48 GMT4
Evan came home from the hospital on Thursday.  All weekend he suffered
from coughing, choking, aspirating like I've never seen before.  On Monday
AM we had a regular visit to his Geriatric Doctor, who thought it would be a
good idea to go into a nursing home for a week or so.  ...

Ethical Dilemma?17 Aug 2004 01:09 GMT15
Here’s an ethical dilemma that is perplexing and may give me some
direction in the event this becomes possible.  This is part of a multi
part post over the next few days in which I am asking for input and
opinions on a very real issue. My company researches nutritional

Baffling symptoms..... 17 Aug 2004 01:09 GMT4
Yesterday, my mother went home from her one week stay with me. She
begged to go home. Couldn't wait to get home. Had her bag packed and
was waiting for my husband hours before he was ready to leave.
While she was here, I observed that she checked and double checked
Pointers, suggestions, tips...?17 Aug 2004 01:09 GMT22
A little history, a little weird local news, and a naked request for
information:
My father is 82, recently diagnosed w/ AD and has been in a nursing home for

REMEMBER ME, by Kenneth Chafin
When you forget your own address and find yourself on strange streets, we'll
sell your car, and I'll drive you to all the places you need to go,  like
you did when I was a child.
Good Things About Caring for an Elderly Parent14 Aug 2004 07:55 GMT10
-- She can be really, really funny and goofy.  She makes me laugh very hard,
much more than before the dementia.
-- She can illuminate people's true colors.  I take note of who shoves by her
even though she walks with a cane and who steps out of the way and lets her
Approval for Namenda/Exelon combination?13 Aug 2004 23:05 GMT9
I would like for my Dad to add Namenda to the Exelon he has been
taking for three years.  The Dr. says she cannot prescribe this
combination as there are no studies proving it safe and effective.
The only studies published are for the Aricept/Namenda combination.
Dad's moved in with me.13 Aug 2004 17:30 GMT3
It's been only 3 months so I am relatively new at this, but by lurking in this
group, have already learned more about AD than I ever wanted to know. Had
noticed that some folk here have mentioned vitamin B-12, is it safe to start
giving it to Dad? Why didn't his Dr. suggest it?( ...
Giving care to the caregiver (looong)13 Aug 2004 12:42 GMT7
My hub and I discussed it, and decided that it might be a good idea to go down
and stay with his folks for a month or two to help his dad out.  J (my FIL)
takes care of Dot (the AD patient) 24/7, but prior to this had no experience in
housekeeping or even taking care of himself.  We ...
Evan in hospital (kinda long)12 Aug 2004 20:23 GMT2
Well, last night my buddy Evan called at 1:45 AM to say he was trying
to get ready for work at Boeing (never worked there) but someone from the
government had just called him and was trying to get him to quit his work
and not tell anyone about it.  Needless to say I ran across ...
