My mother has been on Namenda for two months now and for Aricept for over a

was still washing her clothes in the bathroom sink.  She would hang them up

what retired folks do all day (OT)27 May 2004 17:32 GMT1
Subject: What retired folks do all day...
Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days
interesting. Thought you'd might like to see what happened to me last week.
I went to the store the other day. I was only in there for about 5 minutes.
Mom; New Diagnosis27 May 2004 04:43 GMT1
My mother is 82 and her movement of legs has been difficult for several
months.  Her general physician stated is was just age and arthritis.  Since
it seemed to get worse, she had an MRI and a neurologist diagnosed her with
a form of "frontal dementia", and said the normal ...

agitation. She also gets Elavil in the evening.
Does anyone have experience with long term use of this medication? It
seems to work although she is a little more disoriented. Ativan really
lost clothes26 May 2004 00:16 GMT9
Almost all of Ida's clothing is gone.   She had about 14 outfits and now
there are only about 5 left.   All the socks are missing but a couple of
pairs.   I went to the laundry area to look through the lost and found of
unlabeled clothing, and nothing was there.

improvement question24 May 2004 19:24 GMT15
My LO w/AD is an elderly gentleman who was diagnosed about 7 or 8 years
ago. When I first met him about 6 or 7 years ago he was recognizably
impaired only to those who knew him (I didn't realize until I was told).
Since then he has forgotten who I am (I married in to the family), ...

OT, Caregiving, the aftermath, Pretties, and heart22 May 2004 04:58 GMT7
When I read Evelyn's posts about Ida, Tumbleweeds, Songbirds.
And I got my own grief.  Which finally reached the point where I am
meeting with professional conselors because I finally had to admit I
could not do it alone.
Advice needed about mum21 May 2004 04:01 GMT11
I have posted once before to this group about my mum. In 2003 after she
vomitted a lot and felt dizzy continuously more or less for 4 days, she was
admitted to hospital. In the first hour or two of this stay, whilst in A&E
(the UK equivalent of ER) she lapsed into what I can only ...

Just to update you on this...
I spoke to my (and indeed mum's) Doctor on the phone earlier this morning
after suggestions from several of you to find out *exactly* what she is
suffering from. I asked straight out if she had dementia and he said "no,

She just loves it, but everytime she gets ready to go he starts in on
her and makes her feel guilty about leaving him.  We have told him
Any suggestions on medical response systems20 May 2004 01:07 GMT2
One of the options I am pursuing for my folks is a "lifeline" type system
where help can be summoned easily even if one is home alone. Does anyone
here have experiences with any of these companies with accompanying
endorsements or condemnations?
