bladder diverticuli and Flomax

Please respond with details if you have bladder diverticuli and have had problems that may have been related to taking Flomax. Briefly, my situation is that I had urinary retention problems. An ultrasound scan confirmed urinary retention. The urologist put me on Flomax. The urinary retention problem vanished within 10 days, but came back about a week after that. At the time when the urinary retention returned I began to have horrid pains in my lower bowels, a feeling like things moving about in my scrotum and a need to defaecate about 5 times day instead of the usual once. At night I would wake up with severe cramp pains in the rectum and find my lower abdomen covered in sweat. Often, I felt as if my lower abdomen had filled up with a ballon of really hot blood. And so on... My GP could find nothing in his drug literature that suggested a drug induced problem. The urologist thought it strange. My pharmasist did not think a link with the Flomax was ever suggested. My GP tried two other medications that worked via the same mechanism as Flomax and I had the same problem. Stopping these drugs resulted in all my symptoms (except urinary retention) going away. After one year on the Flomax I had a second ultrasound scan and two large diverticuli were found on my bladder, with the result that I now need surgery to remove them. I can't help wondering if the Flomax was responsible, perhaps by relaxing already weakened tissue in the bladder and allowing it to stretch and ballon. I have no idea and would love to hear from others with similar problems. Thanks
