Hey some great info, thank you for taking the time to provide me with a
thoughtful response. To answer your question, I did have a couple of
bact urine tests done that came up negative 8 years or so ago but
nothing since.  I think you suggestion of having some further tests
done is a good one. I am surprised too that the big med companies
haven't jumped at this opportunity...maybe it will be coming soon, lets
hope so.

I am a long time sufferer of prostititis and each Urologist I see treats it
about the same.  Prescribe some antibiotic for 4 weeks and forget it.  It
seems to help for a while, but comes back again later.

Has anyone heard of "Reiters Syndrome".  I heard about it by accident after
I had a bout of prostititis and took Cipro.  It helped the prostate, but
also cleared up a joint problem that I had been having and also improved a
vision problem that had gotten to the point that I couldn't drive at night.
I mentioned this fact to my primary physician before I heard about Reiters,
and he dismissed it as fantasy on my part.

Nope...I don't think med science has made much in the way of advances re:
Prostatitis.    I am surprised, though, that med science, more accurately,
the pharmaceuticals or big money groups, have not investigated this to sell
more diagnostics and meds.     As for your world, did they take blood
samples, maybe even a biopsy of the prostate, and semen specimens to test to
determine what exactly is the bacteria that is causing your infection?
That should have helped to narrow down the type of bacteria,  possibly the
source and the doctors ought to be able to work from there. I understand
that a bacteria can invade the body at just about any point of entry from
fluid exchange with your partner, to broken skin in places as innocent s the
arms and hands, to improper dental hygiene.    Chlamedia (spelling??) can be
present simulataneously in the prostate, the gums of the teeth, the heart,
arteries, etc...as an example and is very difficult to eliminate.   Other
bacteria are fought by doctors prescribing anti-biotics for several weeks,
when they ought to be prescribing for 6 or more months.   Also, your sexual
partner needs to be taking the same meds, for the same duration as you,
else you can transmit the infection to your partner's blood stream and after
the doctor cures you of yours, your partner can then transmit it back to you
again.  It's pretty complicated to treat prostatitis.   Wishing you the very

I have had prostititis for about 9 years. Since that time I have
visited this NG and others reading what I can to see if any new info
has come available. Do we know yet even what causes prostititis?  I
know some have said that various things are thought to be the culprit
but that is hard for me to believe given that our symptoms are nearly
identical.
