Michael is correct, in my opinion. Let me add some points to consider...but you ought to check with your doctor, to be sure of anything when it comes to meds. AVODART and Saw Palmetto are trying to do the same thing, inhibit production of DHT on the theory that if continued long enough, years, not just several months, it will slow or reverse the growth of cells in Prostate. I'd not take both together. That's just dangerous, in my opinion. One is approved by FDA and the other is supported extensively by anecdotal information, and with a few studies-- that I have not reviewed extensively, so can't comment on the scientific methodology involved. As for FLOMAX, it is different. FLOMAX is an Alpha Blockers... it lowers blood pressure... and is proven in short term studies to be efficacious in helping to allow one to urinate while the PROSCAR or AVORDART is given time to start kicking in. Let you doctor address your dosage and don't experiment on your own unless you are certain about the side effects. I was taking FLOMAX, hated the side effects, switched to Uraxotrol, (Xatrol), and after a few months still had similar side effects but the effectiveness started to decrease. So, I made my own choice and ratcheted up the dosage to 1 and a half tabs instead of one. Be sure to CAREFULLY read the possible negative side effects. You may just want to opt for the operation--a piece of cake!-- and save your body the stress of dealing with the meds and the side effects such as "man boobs" from DHT inhibitors and from Alpha Blockers potential side effects such as muddled thinking, retro-ejaculation, restlessness at night, swollen membranes/nasals, etc.
