an A1c OVER LAB NORMALS is NOT ok at all
the cut off before complications increase exponentially is 7.0 on the scale used by the DCCT
the Dr in question has very very very dated information, or he has his head in the sand

Most of the references I have checked out go straight into T2. Got gretchen becker's prevention book on order, but could do with some references that separate out T2 and pre-T2 - for the psychological angle.
