Continued Pain after cracked tooth is capped....

Hi,
Just wondering if anybody else went through this and what the results were.
I cracked a wisdom tooth - no idea how. Just started becoming sensative to hot/cold and pressure. My dentist (who is very good) gave me my options. I decided I would keep the tooth and get it capped. While I wore the temporary cap I noticed I was still sensative to pressure (not cold or hot though). My dentist temporarily glued the permanent cap just to see if the pain would subside. It didn't.
The sensativity is very specific - i can press lightly (with my finger) on all four corners of the tooth and only one corner brings on the pain. It never bothers me without pressure and is uneffected by cold and hot.
Is it possible for one root to need "canaling"? Or is it possible the tooth is still cracked in one area?
Thanks
